Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Merriel Rose Wilson Magwood "Melrose" of Tampa who passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016, will be held Saturday, January 23rd, 10:00 a.m. at New Hope M.B. Church, 3003 E. Ellicott St., Rev. T.R. Coverson officiating with Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette, eulogist. The interment will be in Garden of Memories. Merriel was born in Tampa, Florida to the late Everett and Rosa Lee Wilson. She was educated at St. Peter Claver Catholic School, Blake Senior High School and Gibbs Junior College, St. Petersburg, Florida. She was employed with Tampa General Hospital and General Telephone Company where she retired from after 30 years of service. She was a devoted member of New Hope M.B. Church. She was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. John Willis, where she remained a faithful member until her demise. Merriel served in many ministries; Youth Department, Music Ministry, Senior Mission, Food Bank, a Delegate for Congress, and Grief Ministry. In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting blankets, watching westerns, traveling, reading, cooking for others and watching her grand-daughter dance. Whenever someone needed to talk, she was a great listener. She was a mom to many and her doors were always open. Her grandchildren were very dear to her heart and would put a smile on her face at any time, especially during her illness. Merriel was also preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Lorenzo Scriven. Survived by son, Chad Wilson (Roslyn); daughter, DeShone Glenn; grandchildren Xaykevia Stribling, Kendrick Wilson and Helen Angel Hannah (Tywonne); siblings, brother Eddie Wilson Robinson (Ingrid), Punta Gorda, Florida, Johnny Wilson, Roseland Scriven, Jose Arnold (Tampa, FL); god-children, Johnny Buster, Carla Williams; god-sisters, Melissia Melvin, Nichelle Sanders, Samanthia Paris; many devoted cousins, a longtime friend Linda Brown, The New Hope MB Church family and a host of other loving relatives & friends. The visitation will be held at New Hope M.B. Church from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive guest from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
