Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Mildred Dissee Brown of Tampa who passed away, Tuesday, March 5, 2013, will be held Saturday, March 16th, 11:00 a.m., Allen Temple AME Church, 2101 Lowe Street, Rev. Willie J. Cook, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Mildred Dissee Brown was born August 7, 1920 in Dublin, Georgia to the late Sid Dissee and Ella Smith. She accepted Christ at an early age and later moved to Tampa, Florida with her son, Johnny B. Smith. She met and married the love of her life the late, Eddie (Ed) Brown their union lasted 55 years. Mildred joined Allen Temple AME, where she was a faithful member until her illness. She was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital as a surgical tech for 30 years. All who knew Mildred loved and adored her free spirit. She had a flare for fashion and was blessed with a God-given talent of being an amazing seamstress. Mildred was also an excellent cook, which we all immensely enjoyed. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: grandchildren, Shantel McDaniels and Sherrell Lewis, both of Tampa, Curtis Lewis, Lakeland, Yvonne Brown (Reginald) Gavin, Naples, Lawrence Williams (Katie), and Leshye Miller, Naples; great grandchildren, Michael, Marquis, Sr., and Maurice McDaniels, all of Tampa and Brandon Lewis, Tampa, Curtis, Jr., Jasmine and Joshua Lewis, all of Lakeland; great great grandchildren, Mylla and Marquis, Jr. McDaniels; cousins, Ruby McClendon, Tijuana Whitehead Jones, Theresa Evans, Rosea Eva Trawick and Cleose Kirkland; guardian, Russell Shenk (special thanks), special friends, Janice Ward, Kelly Hillman, Nancy Jenkins, Evelyn and Kim Ross and the Brunson family; staff of Central of Tampa Assisted Living; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, March 15th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
