Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Minnie Lee Ballard Floyd of 3622 55th Street, who passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 11:00 a.m., Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, 1902 W. LaSalle Street, Pastor James C. Givens, with Elder James E. Dawson, pastor of Anointing Christian Fellowship, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mother Floyd was a native of Montgomery (Ramer), Alabama and a resident of Tampa for 45 years. She attended and graduated from the public schools of Montgomery County. Mother Floyd was a faithful member of Anointing Christian Fellowship, where she was the church mother. She was a great prayer warrior and obeyed her calling to feed the hungry, sick and needy. She was also a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always there for her family and was a great example of unwavering love. She worked with Patricia Pierce to start the Crime Prevention Unit in Robles Park. Mrs. Floyd also worked at the University of Tampa, Dietary Department and Honeywell for awhile. Mother Floyd was an activist with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the march from Montgomery, Alabama to Selma, Alabama. Special thanks to her youngest daughter, Katrina Ballard for her dedication, devotion and patience during our mother's illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jeffie Ballard and daughter, Gogie Ballard. She leaves to cherish her memories: 6 children, Coller Williams, Carl Ballard, Willie Ballard, Jacqueline Archibald (Relston), Jeffie Miller (Larry) and Katrina Ballard; 10 grandchildren, Janelle and Shayna Brooks, Collin Longstreet-Ballard, Treneshia Maddox, Jayla Ballard, Tazmin and Taryn Archibald, Christopher Ballard, Cameron Miller and Alexis Ballard; 3 great grandchildren, Zemberiah Strong, Collaysha Longstreet and Derrick Hunter; a host of affectionate cousins; life-long special friend, William Caldwell; friends, Inez Priester, Mother Ramsey and a loving church family. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, October 30th. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. for the service.
