Homegoing services for Mrs. Mittie Hayes of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, will be held Saturday, August 30th, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, 4209 N. 34th Street, Rev. Harry Dawkins, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Mittie Hayes was born January 6, 1921 in Shellman, Georgia. She attended public school in Miami, Florida and attended College in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked as a school teacher with the Hillsborough County Public School System, until retiring. She volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital for many years. She was a member of Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church. She enjoyed being among family and friends and she gave love until her death. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Leslie Alexander. Leaving to cherish her memory: grandson, William Alexander; granddaughter, Nicole Alexander; great grandson, Mason Alexander; daughter-in-law, Rene Alexander, Trenton, NJ; nieces, Ruth Martin, Cassandra Redding of Tampa, Florida and Eve Chrisp of New York, NY; nephew, Oscar Davis of Philadelphia, PA; great grandnieces, Barbara Jean Martin, Rosalind Martin, of Tampa, Florida, Phyllis Blocker, Grave, Georgia; great grandnephews, Eugene Chrisp and Darrell Chrisp of New York, NY, Anthony Martin of Shellman, Georgia, Gary Finch of Miami, Florida, and Jovan Hogan of Philadelphia, PA; close friends, Dolores Hill, Thelma Canty of Tampa, Florida, Dorothy Holmes, Miami, Florida; Timothy and Dorothy Thomas; goddaughter, Carla; godson, Rev. Joseph Bunts; the sisters of sorority, Zeta Phi Beta, Inc., chapter, Beta Sigma Zeta; and a host of other family and friends. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. for the service.
