A homegoing celebration for Mother Vernell Patterson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 will be held on Saturday, April 28th at 4:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Rev. T.L. Williams, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Vernell was born December 21, 1929 to the late Hurley and Millie Ann Mitchell. She attended the Pentecostal Church of God and Christ. Vernell loved floral arrangements. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurley and Millie Ann Mitchell; husband, Arthur Patterson and son, Hurley Johnson. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her children, Shirley Puerto (William), Barbara Stubbs McDermott (Lesedeus), Ronald Avinger (Rosalyn), Wandalyn Kay, John L. Johnson, Jr., Arvester L. Johnson (Autum) and Vernell Johnson-Clark (Michael); grandchildren, Luisa V. Puerto, Jesus W. Puerto II, Robert Puerto (Fabiola), Shanda Stubbs Mackey (Melvin), Wanda Stubbs, Ronald Paul Avinger, Jr. (Alexis), Jovannie White, Jillian Gardner, Michi Clarke, Mikesha Clarke, Shanice Williams, Stephan 'Scooby' Stubbs, Zoey Johnson, Seth Johnson, Mia Wales and Kalin Wales; great-grandchildren, Dominic Puerto, Malik Mackey and Milan Mackey; cousins, Aaron Johnson, Gloria Finch, Lula Scott, Sister Vera, Arthur Dunnigan, Sandra Simmons of Cleveland, Ohio, Bernard Fields, Gwendolyn Williams, Ruth Pridgen Blakey of Little Rock, Arkansas, Marjorie Belcher of Gainesville, Florida; friends, Ethel Chapman, Lillie Mills and Carrie Williams; a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, April 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
