Obituary

Otis Birt, Jr., beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on June 22, 2026. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, yet his spirit endures in the love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the steady kindness that defined his life. Born on July 28, 1966, in Hartford, CT, Otis carried the values of family, resilience and community with him throughout his life. Although he spent the last 20 years in Grove City, OH, Tampa, FL was always his true home; a place where he built lasting relationships, created cherished memories and lived with joy and purpose. He graduated from Gospel Assembly Christian School in Tampa, FL, and worked most recently as a Courier for Iron Mountain. Otis found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved golfing. Watching sports brought him excitement and connection, whether celebrating a win or simply enjoying the game. He also cherished playing cards, where friendly competition and warm conversation created moments he treasured.

Otis was predeceased by several family members who shaped his life and whom he carried in his heart: his grandmother, Daisy Thomas; father, Otis Birt, Sr.; aunts, Barbara Jean Birt and Carolyn B. Monroe; uncle, Elliot Birt, Jr.; cousin, Ike Williams, Jr.; sister, Vicky Jones; and brother, Gregory Ford. Their legacies lived within him and now they welcome him home.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Eva Birt of 33 years from Grove City, OH, and his daughter, Oriel Birt from West Haven, CT. He leaves to mourn his mother, Margaret Collins of Lithonia, GA; brother, Gary Ford of Hartford, CT; sisters, Carolyn B. Ford (Terrance) of Odessa, FL and Vickie Shepherd (Montique) of Warner Robbins, GA, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. In addition, Otis leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends all of whom were touched by his warmth, humor and unwavering love. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his humor, and the way he made others feel valued and at ease. His legacy is one of loyalty, warmth, and quiet strength; qualities that touched everyone around him.
