Mr. Wilson Johnson was born on February 10, 1942, in Vidalia, Georgia, to the late Seymour and Selena Johnson. From an early age, he embraced the values of faith, hard work, and service that would define his remarkable life. He attended Dickerson Training School and went on to become a successful entrepreneur whose influence extended far beyond business into every corner of his beloved community. A man of unwavering faith, exceptional intelligence and undeniable courage, Mr. Johnson devoted his life to uplifting others and advocating for positive change. He was the founder of the Concerned Citizens Coalition and Community Project Hope – From Crime to College, organizations dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening communities through education, opportunity, and hope. He also faithfully served through the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, reflecting his deep commitment to both faith and fellowship. 

Mr. Johnson was a respected voice throughout Georgia. As the host of Straight Talk on WVOP Radio, host of the 1995 television talk show The Johnson Report, and commentator for The Bottom Line FM station, he used his platform to educate, inspire and encourage meaningful dialogue on issues affecting his community. Whether speaking through the airwaves or standing before an audience, his words carried wisdom, conviction and purpose. His dedication to public service resulted in lasting accomplishments. He successfully advocated for the reinstatement of the HOPE Scholarship at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, opening doors of opportunity for countless students. He also played an instrumental role in the renaming of Third Avenue to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Vidalia, ensuring that the legacy of Dr. King would be permanently honored within his hometown. A gifted entertainer, Mr. Johnson was widely known for the Wil Johnson All-Star Review, sharing stages with legendary artists including Betty Wright, Al Green, Gwen McCrae and many others. His passion for music brought joy to audiences while showcasing his remarkable talent and charismatic presence. His service to the community extended through his work as a member of the Housing Authority Board and the Head Start Board, where he advocated for families and future generations. His tireless dedication earned him numerous honors, including recognition as a Living Legacy Honoree in both 2012 and 2016, as well as the Sweet Onion City Award of the Month, presented by Vidalia Mayor Doug Roper for his outstanding service to the community. In recognition of his leadership and lifelong contributions, he was selected as Grand Marshal of both the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and the 2025 Vidalia Christmas Parade. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour and Selena Johnson; brothers, Ronald Johnson and Jackie Johnson; and sisters, Lillie Johnson Asberry, Sherrie Johnson Mikell, Ann D. Johnson Carter and Minnie Johnson Blount. 

He leaves cherished memories to his wife, Lorance Johnson; son, Damion; bonus sons, Andrew Potier and Alfonzo Oates; daughters, Kimberly (Luis) Pacheco, Dr. Sonja (Greg) Johnson and Dr. Chemora Johnson; grandchildren, Kymmeshia (Quintin) Morgan, Korella (Adom) Karamo, La'Shondra Johnson, Zarian Pacheo, Zavian Pacheo, Malik Dorleus, Bella Dorleus, Jeremiah Dawes and Rocky Labastille; seven great-grandchildren, brother, Hulon (Lillie) Johnson; sisters, Lola Day, Patricia Seabrooks and Gwendolyn White; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Wilson Johnson was truly a giant among men. Throughout his life, he used his voice to entertain, educate, advocate and inspire. Whether through music, political commentary, radio, television, or mentoring young people, he remained steadfast in his mission to unite and uplift those around him. Yet above all of his accomplishments, his greatest legacy is the spirit of unity he embodied; a belief that communities grow stronger when people work together with compassion, respect and purpose. Mr. Johnson's life stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, servant leadership and unwavering commitment to making a difference. His extraordinary legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
