Obituary

She leaves a legacy of faith, service, compassion, and unconditional love. Born Bobby Jean Batchelor on February 29, 1936, in Plant City, Florida, Barbara was the family's beloved "Leap Year Baby." She often joked she was "only 23 years old." Her signature red lipstick, warm smile, and favorite words, "I love you to the moon and back," became trademarks of a life devoted to loving others. Barbara graduated from Middleton High School, Class of 1954, and later studied at the University of South Florida. She dedicated more than thirty years to the City of Tampa as a Career Counseling Supervisor, helping countless young people and job seekers find employment and hope. Her faith was equally important. As a devoted member of Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, she faithfully served in numerous ministries and leadership roles throughout the years. Barbara was the proud mother of Keith Batchelor, Sr. and Katrina Batchelor Washington, often smiling as she said, "My son had a son, and my daughter had a daughter that I prayed for." Her home, affectionately known as "The Fellowship House," welcomed everyone with love, laughter, wisdom, and encouragement.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley Johnson; her son, Keith Batchelor, Sr.; her daughter, Katrina Batchelor-Washington; great-granddaughter, Taylor Joy McDonald; her parents, John and Alberta Batchelor; siblings, John Batchelor, Jr., Mary Louise Riggins, Charles Batchelor, Lee Andrew Batchelor, Bettye Jean Brown and Billy Batchelor.

She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Jesyca Giles (JaMarcus Sapp) and Keith Batchelor, Jr. (Raven); great-grandchildren, Elijah J. Batchelor and Rayne R. Batchelor; nieces and nephews, Gail Green, Veronica Borders (Charles), Carolyn Parnell (Bryant), Donna Batchelor Coleman (Craig), Joyce Brown (Rick), Sukandra Cooper (David), Charles Borders (Tiffani), Marilyn Batchelor, Alicia Hicks (Rick), Dawn Wheeler, and Yetta Bungie; her beloved godchildren, Valerie Buchanan, Jerrell Borders, Sr. and Sierra Moultrie; her cherished extended families—the Giles/Lymuel, Thompson/Lawrence, Burney, Mitchell, Grant/Moultrie families, and Terry Griffin; caring neighbors, Tim Allen, Varonte’ Bradley, Gerard Fordoms, Mr. & Mrs. Hopkins; devoted caregivers (nephew) Darron Aldrich, Rebecca Lyncee, Liena Labrada, and Nick Lonescu; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, the entire Aikens family, and everyone whose love and care blessed Barbara throughout her life. The family thanks you for your prayers, love, and support during this time of celebration and remembrance.
