Ms.Bernadette Marie
Guillory
July 4, 1963 – January 24, 2022
Bernadette "Berna" Marie Guillory (Nellum) was born July 4, 1963, at Homestead Air Force Base in Homestead, FL. She led a courageous life and transitioned peacefully in her home in Brandon, FL surrounded by family on January 24, 2022, after a long cancer journey.
Bernadette had a contagious energy and inspired family and friends everywhere she went. Most recently she did so through her uplifting posts on social media, even as she was on her own journey. She loved traveling, a bug she caught as a military brat traveling the U.S. and Europe with her parents. She joined the Army in 1984 and served successfully for 4 years. She also loved the beach, plants, and animals, especially her emotional support dogs, Lela and Rocco. Berna will be remembered for her numerous acts of kindness and volunteerism, including in her final days organizing a drive from her bedroom for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. She joined the St. Peter Claver family shortly after moving to Tampa, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #379.
She is survived by her loving parents, Thoreau and Yvonne Nellum; brother, Brian Nellum (Hermine); and her three beloved sons, Christopher Nellum (Alexis Jackson), Alphonzo Mosby, and Keith Guillory. She also leaves behind her granddaughter, Ava Celeste Yvonne Nellum, daughter of Christopher and Alexis. Bernadettes living family includes many aunts, uncles, and cousins in New Orleans and around the country.
