Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Oretha T. Wright of Tampa who peacefully departed this life and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2009, will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009, 10:00 a.m., Beulah Baptist Institutional Church, 1006 W. Cypress St., Rev. W. James Favorite, pastor officiating. Entombment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mrs. Wright was born in Tampa, Florida to George and Gertrude Thomas on January 4, 1917. She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County and was a member of Middleton High School's first graduating class in 1935. Mrs. Wright taught elementary education in Hillsborough County for the next 40 years and impacted the lives of many of the areas current community leaders. Throughout her life she was extremely active in the local community, serving as President of the Florida Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Ladies Auxiliary in the 1970's and as Secretary of Tampa Bay Florida Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Auxiliary during the same time period. Mrs. Wright lived in retirement from 1979 until her passing. Cherishing her memory are a devoted daughter, Kaydell Wright-Douglas, Esquire; a grandson, Will Douglas, III,; niece, Brenda McCray Wilson; first cousins, Julia Winifred Lomas, Gloria Philmore, Anthena Brown, and Julia Jackson; numerous first cousins once removed; a grandniece, a grandnephew and many other loving relatives, in-laws, and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 4th, and also on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. the family will receive friends at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Metropolitan Ministries in the name of Mrs. Oretha T. Wright.
