Obituary

Dr. Oscar Lamar Ware, known affectionately to friends and family as Oscar, was a beacon of light and a fortress of knowledge whose journey began on July 29, 1966, in Opelika, Alabama. He was a cherished son, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose incomparable wit and intellect brightened the lives of all who knew him. Oscar's story on this earth came to a close on December 5, 2024, in Land O Lakes, as he succumbed to a cardiac arrest at the age of 58.

His formative years in Opelika instilled in him a love for learning and the importance of family. Dr. Ware's passion for public health was evident through his extensive education: a Doctorate in Public Health with a specialization in Epidemiology, a Master's of Science in Health Administration, and a Bachelor of Science with a Minor in Biology. His work addressing preventable deaths in combat showcased his earnest dedication to preserving life, and his research catered to both quantitative and qualitative methodologies that saved innumerable soldiers on and off the battlefield.

Professionally, Dr. Oscar L. Ware left an indelible mark in the realm of military service with over 26 years dedicated to Special Operations. At the time of his passing, he was imparting knowledge at the Joint Special Operations University in Tampa as a Course Manager, where he developed and managed the pivotal Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Foundations Course. His service as a course developer at JSOU was not just a job; it was his calling, his way of shaping a safer world, and he served with unparalleled dedication and excellence.

Oscar's life was characterized by the extraordinary balance he maintained between his illustrious career and his rich personal life. An ardent weightlifter, he relished the discipline and strength training provided. Yet, he was equally at home amidst the stacks of a library, losing hours to the depth of literature,or cheering passionately on the sidelines of a football game. The gun range was another favorite haunt, a place where he demonstrated precision and focus—skills that paralleled the meticulous nature of his work and research.

Oscar thrived on socializing and brought joy and laughter into every conversation with his quick wit. Described as funny, courageous, and intelligent, Dr. Ware tackled every challenge with a fearless grin and a brilliant mind. He inspired those around him to contemplate the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

Dr. Ware not only left a trail; he blazed a trail of honor, discovery, and relentless curiosity that has forever altered the landscape of public health and military service. Dr. Oscar Lamar Ware's story is not one of loss, but one of monumental achievement, enduring love, and ceaseless inspiration. He taught us to find humor in every day, courage in the face of adversity, and intelligence in the continuous pursuit of knowledge. As we celebrate the remarkable life of Dr. Ware, let his memory guide us to forge our own paths with the same unwavering determination and undying passion he exemplified. Though his departure is a profound loss, his spirit endures, urging us to press forward with fortitude and joy.

Dr. Ware was not only a loving father to his 4 surviving children Kimberlee Ware-29 (Atlanta, GA), Jayvon Ware (Atlanta, GA)-26, Nora Ware-17(Land O Lakes, FL), and Justin Ware-13 (Land O' Lakes), but also a guiding light to his 3 bonus daughters; Shaquita Mosley-39 (Harlem, NYC, NY), Chanelle Sinclair-37(Montgomery, AL), and Jasmina Jeddari-28(Pensacola, FL) &; 2 former wives; Sandra Ware-(Atlanta, GA) &; Souad Ware-(Tampa, FL).

Oscar is preceded by Willie Mae Reese-Ware (Mother), Charlie Frank Reese (Father), Dexter L. Reese (Brother), Lula Mae Ware (Grandmother), and Pinkie Mae Foye-Ware (Aunt).

He is survived by Carolyn E. Ware (Sister-Salem, AL), Tanya L. Reese-Bell (Sister-Opelika, AL), Veronica L Reese (Sister-Opelika, AL), Lashawn
