Oveda Laverne Peterson was born to Jake Wiggins and Aretha Peterson on April 27, 1955, in Tampa, Florida. Both her parents passed away before she was an adult, and for the remainder of her childhood, she was raised by her brother Gerald Peterson with the assistance of her aunt Hannah Wedlaw and family friend Alice Davis Ruth Mitchell who all preceded her in death. She was educated through the Hillsborough County School system after graduating from Leto High School.
Her career journey led her to her work families at National Linen Service, Caspers Company MacDonalds, and McKesson Corporation. She was preceded in death by two other siblings, Harriet Coley and Ronald Peterson. She was survived by her siblings Cynthia Peterson, Rodney Peterson (Sharon), and Pastor Carolyn Riggins.
She will be cherished in memory by her sisters and best friends Yvette Howard (Ernest) and Davida Smith. She was preceded in death by her aunts Flossie Sneed and Hannie Sneed, and uncles Booker T. Peterson and Alfred Peterson. She was survived by her loving son, Albert Carswell Jr. (Zenzi), her grandchildren: Alexander Carswell, Austin Carswell, Alna Carswell, Aliyah Carswell, and Aden Blake, her nieces: Jessica Peterson, Shakia Howard (goddaughter), Nikita Murray (Eric), Ebony Smith, Sollena Tharpe, her nephews: Roderick Ashley, Jason Peterson (Catherine), Jake Peterson, Justin Peterson, Kevin Peterson (Pamela), Adrian Peterson (Roxanna), John Tim, Michael Tim (Regina), Vashon Thompson, James Faison III, Michael Howard II, Freddie Howard (Rebecca), David Waters, Qcue Howard, her cousins: Sandra Williams, Marsha Jones (Johnnie), Otis Williams Jr., Lillian Williams, Denise Williams, Andy Williams (Andrea), cherished friends: Henry Brown, Alonzo, Terry Griffith, Andrew Florence , June Campbell, Theresa Parker, Gwen Simmons, Tim Clark, Anthony Matthews, Lois Smith and host of many other relatives and friends. A service of Pre-Celebration will be on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. and the services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home located at 2708 E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Tampa, FL 33610; with the service entrusted to Pastor Carolyn Riggins.
