Obituary

Pastor Tom Alex Jones, affectionately known as "The People's Pastor," was born on May 26, 1955, in Eufaula, Alabama, to Edward, Sr., and Daisy Dudley-Jones. A man of purpose, conviction, and boundless compassion, Tom dedicated his life to service, faith, and community. He was educated in Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Jackson Senior High School. He continued his academic and spiritual development at the Florida Bible Institute-Seminary School, Miami Dade College, and Florida Memorial University. His professional journey included devoted work at Home Depot and Med-Line, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, and genuine concern for others.

Pastor Tom's life was filled with extraordinary accomplishments that reflected his unwavering commitment to uplifting those around him. He was the honored recipient of numerous awards, including the Molina Community Champion Award (2016 & 2017), Juneteenth Spiritual Leader of the Year (2018), Unsung Hero Award (2018), Spiritual Leader of the Year (2018), NAACP Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award (2018), Community Partnership Award–Winn-Dixie (2018), Pastoral Advisory Award (2020), and the BICA Community Overseer Award (2022), among many others. Each recognition was a testament to his servant leadership and his heart for people. Deeply rooted in the community he loved, Pastor Tom served in countless organizations, initiatives, and ministries. His involvement included Community United (President), Assembly of God, Souls to the Polls, Mayor Neighborhood University, Start With Me Inc., The Women of Color Golf, Heavenly Angels Mobile Food Bank, and Love Inc. If the mission was to serve, encourage, empower, or unite, Pastor Tom was there joyfully and faithfully. Outside of his ministry and community work, Tom embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He enjoyed bowling, cheering for the Miami Dolphins, baseball, dancing, singing, being a philanthropist and community activist, and most of all, spending cherished time with family and friends. He was known for his loving spirit, his kindness, his selflessness, and his steadfast faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jones, Sr., and Daisy Dudley- Jones; sisters, Eddie Mae Jones-Calloway (Albert), Lillie Mae McKenize (Joel), Annie Rose Jennings (Roosevelt), and Hattie Mae Turner (Jeff). He leaves cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife, Willie Mae Jones; daughters, Tomika A. Jones (Miami, FL), Tomasena A. Linnen (Jeremy) (Atlanta, GA), and Amari L. Jones (Tampa, FL); grandchildren, Tyerell "TJ" Woodard, Jr., Camira Williams, Jinora Linnen, and Legend Neloms; brothers, Elbert Jones, Jr. (Theresa), Willie Jones (Dorothy), and Jesse Jones (Pamela) (Miami, FL); sister, Daisy Bailey (Miami, FL); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; along with the Scott family. A scripture that will forever remind us of his unwavering faith is: "And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) His legacy is one of love, service, and unshakeable faith. Pastor Tom Alex Jones touched countless lives, and his impact will continue to shine through the many hearts he uplifted. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered .
