Pfc. Tyler Jacob Jones, lovingly known as My Sunshine, T Man, and SGT Rex, was born on February 15, 2000, in Chicago, Illinois. Tyler's radiant smile, contagious laugh, compassionate heart, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impact on every life he touched. He had a light within that shone so bright it could light up the world. Tyler enjoyed Life and he enjoyed eating his favorite hot apple pie and his Nana's sweet potato pie. From a young age, Tyler longed to be a soldier in the US Army, as his Dad, Mom, Nana, and Sister had served before him.
Tyler was a proud and dedicated serviceman, committed to excellence and honor. He completed Army training, earned his Airborne qualification, recognized as a Master Gunner and during high school participated in Air Force ROTC. He earned his Silver Spur certification Tyler's discipline, leadership, and courage reflected his deep devotion to duty and his love for country. Beyond his military accomplishments, Tyler's creativity and passion flourished in many forms. He enjoyed music deeply, and played several instruments, his favorite being the guitar. He also played keyboard, euphonium and ukulele. additionally, he enjoyed photography, singing; composing, and writing original pieces that expressed his soul. Tyler leaves behind a family who loved him fiercely and unconditionally.
His father Gregory Jones preceded him in death.
He is survived by his mother, Elevavina Perry-Pericles, and stepdad, Alexandre Pericles; brother, Albert C. Barnes III; sister, Maeyamoni'que P. Traylor, and sister-in-law, Nereida Hernandez; brothers, Pierre Jones, and Gregory Jones, Jr. He was also survived by his Nana, Margo E. Bellamy. He was also preceded in death by his aunts, Joetta D. Perry and Cynthia Strother. He is also cherished by his aunts, Chanel A. Perry, Denise M. Lewis, Diane Perry, Geraldine Moore, Betty Perry. Annette Perry, Serita Perry and Felicia Jones; uncles, Leon Perry, Tyrone Lewis, and Gordy Jones. Tyler's legacy continues through his nieces, Janiyah Barnes, Kiyanna Barnes, and Ariana Barnes; nephew, Christopher Traylor, Jr.; cousins, Andre Perry, Cherelle Perry, Michelle Hines, Ricardo Hamlin, Shaquel Perry, Raquel Perry, Margo Clarice Grannision, Kimberly Perry, Tyashia Perry, and Sean Perry; and a host of additional beloved cousins; godparent, Albert C. Barnes, Jr., who he loved greatly and leaned on throughout his entire military career; godbrother, Ricardo Shippie, who from childhood held a special place in his heart. Tyler will be remembered for his contagious, smile and laughter his unwavering kindness, his boundless passion for music, his dedication to service, and the brilliant light he let shine on those around him. Tyler loved the Lord and was baptized in 2009 at Lighthouse MBC West Palm Beach, Florida. He was passionate about the word and a servant of servants. Tyler was an example of letting your light shine before men, so that man can see your good works and glorify the father in heaven. May his spirit soar, his music echo forever, and his memory remain a blessing.
