Homegoing services for Mrs. Rachel Ann Philon of 8707 N. Otis Avenue, who passed away, Friday, February 27, 2009, will be held Saturday, March 7th, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Rev. Evan Burrows, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Rachel Ann Philon was born April 10, 1933 to the late George and Mary Hill. She was a native of Silas, Alabama, where, she attended Shady Grove School. She was baptized at an early age and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Rachel met and married Grady Philon on December 17, 1949. They relocated to Tampa, Florida in 1970. Mrs. Philon was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill. She was highly respected and loved by her family and friends. Her beauty and vibrancy made her a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Her words of wisdom, affectionate smile and laughter linger on in the hearts of many who loved her. She was preceded in death by parents George and Mary Hill and 6 brothers. She leaves to cherish her memories a deeply devoted and loving husband, Grady Philon; children, Joe Philon Sr. (Evelyn), Grady Philon Jr. (Geraldine), Lizzie McGrew (Waddie Sr.), Cheryl Davis(James Sr.), Deborah James(Willie), Michael Philon(Carolyn); Eddie Philon(Carmen); Joyce Harris (Nathaniel), Ronald Philon (Annie), Darrell Philon (Maria) and Pamela Williams (Derrick Sr.);grandchildren, Linda Welch (Eugene), Meshel Philon, Melisa Willingham (Trell), Joe Philon Jr., William, Joshua and Cazandra Philon, TaShara Chandler, Zekiya Philon, Jarnece Johnson, Marquis Philon, Angela White (Clarence), Kimberly West (Christopher), Waddie McGrew Jr.(Regina), Reva McGrew(fiance Leroy), Terrell McGrew (fiance Rhonda), Nikki McGhee (Marquaz), Erika Davis, James Davis Jr. Willie Johnson (Erika), LaToya James, Channing James, Michael Philon Jr. Tremaine Philon, Don Anderson, Elysha Jennings, Rachael Philon, Marchae Howard (Robert), Shawntae Clark(Brian), Jamar Harris, Erica Harris, Janai Harris, Sherrelle Philon, Ronald Philon Jr., India Philon, Asia Philon, Derrick Williams Jr., Xavier Williams and DeSha Williams; sister, Mary Pearl Burke; brothers, Clinton Hill (Jessie Mae) and Roosevelt Hill (Thelma); sisters-in-law, Bessie Hill, JoAnn Hill, Virga Hill, Mary Hill and Aretha Butler; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains will repose at Aikens Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral cortege will arrange from 8707 N. Otis Avenue.
