Obituary

Rickey Wadell Griffin, age 65, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Ochlocknee, Georgia, passed away

on September 12, 2024, due to complications of cancer. Born on January 2, 1959, to the late

Dorothy Walden and James Mccraw . Rickey was known for kind heart, infectious humor, and

generous spirit that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Rickey proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, a period of

his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and a deep appreciation for the values of honor

and commitment. His time in the service was a defining experience that he would carry with him

throughout his life, influencing his actions and the way he related to others.

After his military service, Rickey settled in Tampa, Florida, where he became a beloved member

of the community. His passion for music and love for his pet dog were well-known to his friends

and family, and these interests provided a source of joy and comfort throughout his life. Rickey's

laughter was a beacon of light, and his presence was a source of warmth to those around him.

Rickey was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sabrina A. Griffin. He is survived by his

devoted daughter, Wykenya and her husband, Robert Johnson, and his adored grandchildren,

Tykerian Mathis, Kambren Mathis, and Keneyana Johnson. Rickey's legacy is also carried on by

his six sisters, Vickey Surrency (Therodore) of Mcclenny, FL; Cynthia (Davis) of Columbus, GA;

Robin Johnson (Donald) of Albany, GA; Sylvia Torrence (Byron) of Athens, GA; Janine Howard

(Jimmy) of Valdosta, GA; Terrill Walden of Texas; and his brother, Wayne Walden of Meigs, GA.

His life was further enriched by a host of loving nieces and nephews, as well as six aunts and

five uncles who will all miss him dearly.

Rickey's character was defined by his kindness, which was evident in every interaction, whether

with family, friends, or strangers. His humor brought laughter to even the most mundane

moments, and his generosity knew no bounds. Rickey was the kind of person who would give

without expecting anything in return, and his memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate

enough to experience his magnanimity.

As we bid farewell to Rickey, we remember a life lived with passion and purpose. We take

solace in the knowledge that his values and love have left an indelible mark on this world.

Rickey's journey was one of dignity, joy, and an unrelenting commitment to the well-being of

others. His story is not one of sorrow, but rather a celebration of a life that exemplified the very

best of the human spirit.

Rickey Wadell Griffin's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony, where his family and

close friends will gather to honor his memory and the immeasurable impact he had on their

lives. As we reflect on Rickey's life, we are reminded of the preciousness of each day and the

importance of living with kindness, laughter, and generosity. His spirit lives on in the hearts of

those he loved and in the many lives he touched.

In Rickey's memory, let us each find ways to spread joy and compassion in our own lives, as he

so effortlessly did in his. Though he may have left this world, the essence of who he was - a

kind, funny, and generous man - will forever remain with us. Rest in peace, Rickey; your legacy

will continue to inspire us all.
