Robert Leon
Alexander
February 22, 1951 – February 5, 2024
On February 22, 1951, the Lord graciously bestowed life upon Robert Leon Alexander, affectionately known as Bobby. He was the youngest of seven children born to the late Katie Bell Graham and James D. Alexander, Sr. Each of his siblings preceded him in death, Frances Williams, James Alexander, Jerome Alexander, Rudolph Alexander, Evelyn Mifflin, and Arthur Alexander.
During his early years, Bobby was a member of First Baptist Church of West Tampa, FL. He was an active participant in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Bobby graduated from Howard W. Blake High School, class of 1969. As he possessed an innate desire to serve, he volunteered to serve his country in the U. S. Army for 14 years. Robert earned the rank of Sargent, as a military policeman, and received an honorable discharge in 1989. After the Army, Bobby relocated to Georgia and pursued a career in law enforcement. He secured a position at the Oglethorpe Police Department where he served as an officer and was later promoted to deputy. He later returned to Tampa and worked for private security companies. He was also a great handyman and helped his family and friends with home repairs. Bobbys other hobbies include working on cars and fishing. In Tampa, Robert was a member of St. John Progressive M.B. Church and later became a faithful member and employee of His Hands Community Bible Fellowship Church, where his brother, the late Rudolph Alexander, served as Senior Pastor. There, Bobby served in multiple roles, including facilities manager, soloist, and usher. Bobby also completed the "His Hands", Disciple Bible Study Program and earned his disciple certificates. Some of his favorite gospel songs were, "God Is" by James Cleveland and "Near the Cross" by Frank Williams. Bobby often sang "Mama, I Thought Youd Like to Know" by Candi Staton as a tribute to his mother, Katie Graham.
Robert leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his wife, Marquita Sheppard Alexander; stepdaughter, Willeisha Conley of Tampa, FL; two sons, Jeremy Alexander (Chelundra) and Anthony Alexander (Sheena) of Americus, GA; 3 grandchildren, Antravius, Anyih, and Aurion Alexander of Americus, GA; two sisters-in-law, Gayle Caraway of Tampa, FL and Martha Alexander of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the following exceptional family members: Min. Belinda Williams, a devoted relative and true woman of God, who demonstrated selfless love, compassion, and genuine concern for Robert during his lengthy illness; cousins Christopher, Michael, and David Bates, your loving kindness, frequent visits, attention to Bobbys needs, brought him much comfort and cheer during his final days at Victoria Nursing Center in Miami is commendable!
