Obituary

Mr. Roland Eugene Carrington was born in Tampa, Florida, on January 6, 1944, to the late Herbert Carrington, Sr. and Mae Alice Warren Thomas. He was the youngest of four (4) siblings. Roland attended Hillsborough County schools, beginning with St. Peter Claver Catholic School and graduating from Blake High School. While completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Talladega College in Alabama, Roland met Margretta, his treasured wife of fifty-eight (58) years.

He later continued his post-graduate education, earning the Certified Public Manager designation. He began his career as an educator, teaching both at Dunbar and Bryan Elementary Schools and, later transitioned into higher education administration serving as the Director, Human Resources at the University of South Florida, where he dedicated over 20 years of service.

Roland was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated (Gamma Gamma 1962 initiate). In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the dog tracks, trying his luck with slot machines, and family road trips across the country. His musical tastes were diverse, ranging from gospel music to the sounds of Elton John. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and the New Horizon of Men Ministry.

As a long-term cancer survivor, Roland lived to be eighty-one (81) years old. Roland and Margretta enjoyed having a large, combined family routinely traveling over the years between Tampa, Florida, and Glasgow, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Carrington, Sr.; mother, Mae Alice Warren Thomas; older brothers, Herbert Carrington, Jr., and Marion Cabrera (Eloise); beloved sister, Alice Martha Clark (Harcourt).

While Roland enjoys his homecoming with family members that have preceded him, he leaves cherished memories and life-long wishes of happiness to his beloved wife, Margretta Yvonne Carrington; children, Sandra Carrington Taylor (Steven), and Lucretia Carrington Brinson (Kenneth Sr.); grandchildren, Kenneth Cornelius Brinson, Jr. (Sorca), Kamryn Elizabeth Brinson, Jasmyne Denise McDuffie, Jaylen Clemente McDuffie, Jordan Carrington McDuffie, and Julian Curtis Taylor; nieces, Karen Thompson (Al), Gail Gaitlin (Tim), Robin Green, Nicole Hanks (Michael), Jennifer Parker (David), Yolanda Liggins (Bill), and Laveeta Branche; nephews, Edison Godfrey (Renee), Herbert Carrington III, Warren Carrington (Angel), Marion Cedric Carrington (Davina), Harcourt Clark (Sadie), Theron Clark (Rocie), Christopher Branche (Kimberly), Antoine Strawbridge (Lydia) and Antonio Strawbridge; sisters-in-law, Luella Carrington, and Buelah Godfrey; along with a host of cousins, friends and other relatives.
