A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Ronald George Atkinson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Dr. S. Evan Burrows pastor, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born in Montego Bay Jamaica to mother, Aida Ellis and father, Oswald George Atkinson on May 27, 1933. He was educated at Boys School in Montego Bay. Ronald was a very successful business man in Jamaica. He provided for his family by being an entrepreneur. He was a tailor, vendor, and a chef. He met his beautiful wife, Evelyn Brown when he was 20 and she was 18 years old. They were married on September 25, 1960. He was known to all his friends and loved ones by various nick names like, Papa, Pops, Taylor, and Vigatan. He was always a shining star and always looking to entertain others. He was a singer, musician, and actor. He would volunteer at the senior center in New York City and put on plays, wear costumes and sing for the residence there, as he played his accordion. In New York, Ronald worked as a security guard at Ocean Village. He was a member of Trinity Baptist in New York, where he was member of the choir and often sang lead. Ronald and Evelyn moved to Florida in the early 2000's and became members at First Baptist Church of College Hill, where he was a member of the men's choir. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pauline Atkinson whom went home to be with the lord in 2012. Ronald George Atkinson Aka Papa moved on to be with the Lord and left us all to carry on his legacy, to love and care for others. Papa is gone but not forgotten. Amen. Ronald George Atkinson aka Papa left behind his wife, Evelyn Maude Atkinson; six children, Paulette Atkinson, Jennifer Atkinson, Paula Atkinson, Clive George Atkinson, Dwight George Atkinson, Courtney George Atkinson; twenty grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, October 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
