Obituary

Homegoing services for Mr. Ronald Tom Christie of Seffner will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at 34th Street Church of God, 3001 N. 34th Street, Rev. Thomas Scott, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ronald, a special blessing from God, was born in Tampa, Florida on November 9, 1952. He was the first born son of Tom Chester Christie and Helen White Christie. He was baptized at an early age at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. He attended the local schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton High School, Class of 1971. He entered marital bliss December 15, 1979. He began his lifelong career with CSX Railroad in 1974. He retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He was an avid golfer, a superb mechanic, automobile restorer and loved listening to music. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, watching westerns, football, golf and fast cars. Ronald loved FAMU, loved talking and ensuring that others were enjoying themselves around him. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerald Christie and Kenneth Christie. Ronald answered the call of the Lord on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted and loving wife of 32 years, Sabrina Whaley-Christie; a dedicated and loving daughter, Carla S. Christie; sisters, Willie B. Davis, Beverly Backey and Beatrice Larry; nieces and nephews, Sabrina (Bobby) Nobles, Philana Backey, Nikia Christie, Ashley Herd, Odyssey Christie, Karen Davis, Terri'eisha Allen, Mark and Chris Davis and Kenny Christie; aunts, Sarah C. Tucker and Lillie M. (Turner) Covington; mother-in-law; Gladys Whaley, brothers-in-law, Leonard (Jennifer) Whaley, Gregory (Pricilla) Whaley and Paul Whaley; sisters-in-law, Veronica Whaley, Betty Christie and Dannetta Whaley; cousins Catherine Cottman, Rodney Thomas, Charles and John Christie, Karen (Stan) Franklin, Audrey Franklin, Barbara Gardner, Karen Whiting, Joan Covington, Karen Jackson, Lenae (Alexander) Smith, Angela Rogers, Veronica and Bobby James, Bernadina and Jerry Jenkins, Francis Chambers, Ozie Brown, Ida Harris, Michael Watson and Ernestine Carr; godchildren, Alexandria and Marco Williams, Marcus, Myron and Marion Scott; special family and friends, Christie family of Tallahassee, Graham family of Ocala and Anthony area, Joe N. Campbell, Norris (Alma) Smith, Hankerson family, Wilson family, Watson family, Washington family, Marion family, Twine family, Smith brothers and sisters, Jim Dent and family, Williams family, Golfers of Rogers Park, CSX Railroad family, many cousins and other relatives and sorrowing friends in Tampa, Tallahassee, Lloyd, Jupiter, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Ocala and Jacksonville, FL. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. for the service.
