Obituary

Homegoing services for Rev. Rubin Mitchell, Jr., of Tampa who passed away on July 9, 2011 at a local Rehabilitation facility, will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at New St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, 1006 S. 50th Street, Rev. Alec F. Hall, pastor. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Rubin was born July 29, 1937 in Tampa, Florida. He was the oldest son born to the late Rubin and Henrietta Mitchell, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Tampa, Florida and served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Rubin served in the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge. Rubin was a mason member with St. Joseph Lodge 661. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Theresa Mitchell, Viola Mitchell Drew, Christine Mitchell Watson and Cecil Mitchell; aunts, Viola Singleton, Mamie Jackson, Ida Mae Mount; uncles, Amos Mitchell, Cecil Mitchell, Samuel Campbell. He was born and raised in the church of God by Faith, under the leadership of his grandfather, Elder Roy C. Campbell. He received Christ at an early age and later received his Deaconship at Unity M.B. Church under the guidance and leadership of Pastor H.H. Hunt for over 30 years serving there faithfully. He was later called as a Reverend and was presently serving at the New St. Matthews M.B. Church, as an associate minister under the leadership of Pastor Alec Fitzgerald Hall. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ola B. Lott-Mitchell; children, Annette Mitchell, Los Angeles, CA, Edward Mitchell, Detroit, MI, Johnnie Jackson, Angela Williams, Theresa Webb, DoMierell Lott and Eugene Lott; goddaughter, Sheila Walker and husband, Bernard and mother of his goddaughter, Hazel Brown all of Tampa; brothers-in-law, B.L. Carter, James Carter and wife, Barbara, Clarksville, TN; sisters-in-law, Carrie Tyson, Evelyn Larry, Nancy Brown and Thelma Rivers, all of Tampa; brothers, Joseph Mitchell and wife, Yvonne, Detroit, MI; Henry Lee Campbell, Cocoa Beach; sister, Rosa Lee Woods and husband, James; uncle, Isaiah Campbell and wife, Yvonne, Newark, NJ; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends; special friends, Otis Haugarbrook, Evangelist Romeo Welch, Louis Dessesseaux and Frank Hugg. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, July 14th, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
