Sister Ruby Theresa Mitchell Homegoing services for Sister Ruby Theresa Mitchell of Tampa who passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2011, will be held on Saturday, September 3rd, 2:00 p.m., at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 3708 E Lake Avenue, Rev. W.D Sims, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Sister Ruby Theresa Mitchell was born January 31, 1940 in Tampa, Florida to Nathaniel and Annie Bright. She received her formal education from the school system of Hillsborough County, where she graduated from Middleton Senior High School in the class of 1958. She was employed with the School District of Hillsborough County. She worked at Nathan B. Young School for over 10 years before she became ill and could no longer continue employment. She united with St. Matthew M.B Church many years ago and faithfully served with the #1 Usher Board, under the leadership of Sister Georgia Smith. When her health failed and she could no longer attend she was still interested in finding out about the services and the happenings at the church. Sister Mitchell was a loving, caring and compassionate person. Her favorite pastimes were bingo, cooking and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her special strut when ushering, humorous nature, contagious smile, she could make you smile even if you didn't want to and she created delicious meals that were enjoyed by many. Ruby enjoyed bingo, cooking, family and gatherings. She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Troutman, father, Nathaniel Bright, sister, Vivian Scott, and uncles, George and Leon Coleman. She leaves to cherish memories husband, Charles Mitchell; children, Diann Thomas, Deann Thomas, Tonia Bright, and Violet Mathis; grandchildren, Naimah Thomas, Jemal Thomas(Regina), Genair Kirnes, Yasin Bright, Nyleria Lancaster, Akyia Troutman, Temeka Thomas, Temesha Thomas, Karreem Troutman Sr., Bill Mathis and Valencia Simmons; great grandchildren, Maleek, Miara, Deashia, Jamell, Jaida, Jadden, Jawuan, Kareem, Jr., and Kamaya; mother, Annie Bright; brothers, Melvin Doyle; sisters, Audrey Jackson and Gwendolyn Triplett; aunt, Susie Bass; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; best friends, Juanita Isom, Kim Irons, Dorothy Sneed and Mary Biggins. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 2nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
