Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Rudean Wingfield Brown of Tampa who passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 will be held Saturday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m., First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N 29th St, Tampa, FL 33610, Dr. Evan Burrows, pastor, Elder Alfred Wingfield, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery.Rudean Wingfield Brown was born on February 15, 1939 in Tampa, Florida. She was the second youngest of eight children born to James Wingfield and Cora Lee O'neal Wingfield whom preceded her in death. She was educated by Hillsborough County Public Schools and was a member of the George S. Middleton High School class of 1960. Following her graduation from high school, Rudean set her sights on the highest of seven hills in Tallahassee, Florida, at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. There she studied education and added skill to her already budding passion of cultivating young minds. Rudean returned to Tampa in the spring semester of 1964 as an intern at the then segregated Howard W. Blake High School. Upon completion of her student teaching she became a graduate of the FAMU's College of Education and was a member of the class of 1964. She later continued her education at the University of South Florida, where she obtained a Masters of Arts in Education in 1972. She remained in Tampa and devoted 33 years to investing in the youth of the Hillsborough County School District. During her career as an educator she spent years teaching at her beloved Alma Mater Middleton High School, Blake Middle School, St. Petersburg Junior College and Young Middle Magnet School, the latter of which she retired from in 1997. She was known to have an eye for spotting beautiful items and had an extensive collection of glass and other antiques. Upon retirement she enjoyed endless amounts of quality time with family, especially her grandson's George and Matthew and looked forward to an annual trip to Biloxi with friends. She was a strong woman with a gentle spirit, she will be remembered as a woman who loved her family deeply and cared much about her community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill. 'It is never too late to dream, nor is it too late to live that dream'. Rudean was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She leaves to cherish her memories with her daughter, Renita D. Rayner; 2 grandsons, George H. Mount, Jr. and Matthew M. Rayner; great granddaughter, Sophia Rudean Cresop-Mount; nieces (like daughters), Charlesetta W. Arline, Jannette Stewart and Hope Terrible; nephews, Nathaniel Wright, Robert Bowman, Pastor Elder Alvin Wingfield and Elder Alfred Wingfield; cousins, Altamese Brown and Carol Nelson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; godson, Theodore Franklyn; friends, LaJoan Franklyn, Maxine Davis, Wilbert and Juanita Williams, Mildred Harvey, Dr. Margaret Fisher and Gloria Newton and neighbors, Rev. Matthew and Eva James and family. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, March 28th, from 5-8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
