Homegoing services for Ms. Ruth Alice Buford of 9710 Elm Way, who entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 12, 2010, will be held Saturday, February 20th at 4:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Neely, officiating. Ms. Ruth Alice Buford was born November 16, 1920 in Pleasantville, New Jersey to James Austin and Virginia Tyler. Ruth was a resident of Tampa, Florida for the past 20 years, after retiring from civil services as an Administrative Manager at the City of New York Administration Office of Personnel Services, in 1982. She moved to Pleasantville, New Jersey and was employed as an Administrative Assistant by the Salvation Army in Atlantic City, New Jersey for nine years. She pursued her interests in doll and ceramic crafts, sewing and knitting, world-wide travel and bingo. She gave generously to charities and was devoted to her family. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Ruth-Ann Marie Buford of Mays Landing, New Jersey and Roslyn Ann Buford of Tampa, Florida; a surviving sister, Virginia Miller of Tampa, Florida; her grandsons, David E. Buford of McDonough, Georgia and Anthony D. Farrow, Sr. of Pleasantville, New Jersey; 3 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Austin; sisters, Mamie Austin, Ann Morris and Rachel Austin; and grandson Aubrey Buford. Ruth had a heart of gold. She was a source of comfort to those in need and had a kind word for everyone she ever met. Ruth was a rock to the family. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now at peace. Farewell to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and our friend. A viewing will take place Saturday, February 20th from 9-4 pm at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel.
