Ruth Ann
Jones
July 17, 1946 – February 27, 2026
Today we remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Ruth Ann Carter Jones, born on July 17, 1946, in Vienna, GA, to Mrs. Leola West Hill and Mr. Eddie Murray. Ruth was a proud graduate of Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida. She began her career working with the Tampa Police Department, where she served for eight years. She later worked as a medical receptionist, continuing her dedication to helping others. Ruth eventually joined Hillsborough County Schools, where she worked as a bus driver for many years until her retirement. Through her work and service, she touched the lives of many in the Tampa community. Ruth will be remembered for her loving heart, kind spirit, and her unmistakable honesty. She was the kind of person who always told it like it was—no sugar coating—but it always came from a place of care and sincerity. Those who knew Ruth appreciated her straightforward nature and the warmth behind her words. She had a special love for shopping and a deep appreciation for cars, especially Cadillacs. Whether she was browsing for something new or admiring a beautiful Cadillac, those simple joys brought her happiness. Above all, Ruth valued the people in her life. Her love, kindness, and candid spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jones, Sr.; son, Darryn Jones; and grandson, Jamiah Jones. She was raised by Rosetta and JB Carter, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bobby Murray, Carl Murray, Nay McCrary, and George Hill, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, John Jones, Jr. (Tina) of Lutz FL. and Tammy (Arthur) Brown of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Joneisha Jones and Darren Jones; great-granddaughter, Brea Ball all of Tampa, FL; siblings, Earl (Christina) Hill of SouthField MI, Gloria Brown of Atlanta, GA, Cathy (Frankie) Dixon of Cordele, GA, Carol Smith, Virginia Price, Barbara (Joe) Thomas, Anna Marie Burnam, Randall Hill and Linda Hill all of Vienna, GA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends to include Pearl Tyson, Annie White, Lois Brown, Gloria Smith, Jessie Parker, Vernita McBride, Adrian Judge-Severin, Mary Mc Keller and her pet, Jack Jones.
