Homegoing services for Mrs. Rutha Mae Walker of 2708 E. 24th Avenue., who passed away, January 23, 2010, will be held Saturday, February 6th, 2:00 p.m., Aikens Funeral Home 2708 E. Dr. M.L. King, Jr. Blvd, Rev. Donald Yeoman, officiating. Internment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Rutha was born November 17, 1941 in Leary, Georgia, the second child of the late James Lee Barnes and Mary Lee Barnes. She attended public schools in Lowndes County, Georgia, and she later relocated to Tampa, Florida. In the following years, Mrs. Walker worked various jobs, but her most important job was being a mother and grandmother to her children and her grandchildren. Mrs. Walker enjoyed cooking, gardening and family gatherings. Also, Mrs. Walker enjoyed shopping at thrift stores with her sister Fannie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Walker, sister, Eva Cole, grandson, Demario Edwards and nephew, Nathaniel Cole Jr. She leaves to cherish precious memories with her children, Linda Hardy (Alfonzo-deceased), Priscilla Stevens(Robert), LaWanda Mack-Carey (Keith), Tangla Mack (Colin), Andrew Mack(Michelle), and son-in-law, Ray Jackson; grandchildren, Marco Anderson, Dion Stevens, Shquan Stevens, Tavaras Holmes, Andrew Mack Jr., Devontae Mack, Shawnta Mack, Bronson Mack, Bryan Edwards, Shameka Mack, Byron Edwards, Melvin Rhanes, Reggie Rhanes, Mary Edwards, Ayesha Mack, Antonio Mack, Lakisha Mack, Makahla Hardy, Jaqua Mack; great-grandchildren, Dajze, Marqae, Zabriel, Terique, Shanelius, Dasyah, Nolan, Nola, Tavaras Jr., Ty'Coryion, Antonio, Quaniyah, and Tyler; sister, Fannie Mae Riggins(Levonia Sr. deceased); brother-in-law, Nathaniel Cole Sr.; nieces, Jeanene, Consuola, and Jacquelyn; nephews, Ricky, Levonia Jr., Alonzo and Demetris; aunt, Dollie Barnes; cousins, Mildred Hill (Willie), Charley Bell Akins(Gary), Claudia Perry, Jeannie Boyd and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends at Aikens Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening. There will be no public viewing. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Chapel for the service.
