Obituary

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Sammie Lee Williams of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, will be held on Friday, June 10th, 7:00 p.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., Rev. Larry Roundtree II, pastor officiating. The interment will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 11:00 a.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Sammie Lee Williams was born March 1, 1955 in Union, Arkansas to John and Olean Williams. Sammie was a member of the United States Army and a reservist for the 495th Transportation Operation in Lakeland, Florida; as a reservist he participated in Operation Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged after receiving several medals, decorations, badges, citations and campaign ribbons. He also had several civilian jobs and worked the longest with Southeastern Galvanizing Valmont Industries for 24 years as a forklift operator. He retired from working at the James A. Haley Hospital due to health reasons. Sammie was a member of New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, which he loved. He was a member of the usher's ministry and security ministry. He also loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Williams. He leaves to cherish his wife, Betty A. Williams; children, LaSonya Williams, Calion, AK and step-son, Kevin C. Coney, Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Kristin and Kyia Williams and Darrius Leslie, all of Calion, AK; very devoted step-grandchildren, Aislyn D. Coney, Tampa, FL, Aynia and Ari Williams, Calion, AK; mother, Olean Williams, Eldorado, AK; brothers, Donald L. Williams (Ola), John H. Williams and Willie Williams, all of Eldorado, AK and Gary Williams, Temple, TX; aunts, Joyce Williams and Ruby Green (Robert), Eldorado, AK; special friends, Leroy and Claudine Blue, Dan and Minnie Mitchell, Richard and Juanita Burston, Willie and Cassandra Howard, Barbara Wright, Gloria Brandon and the Washington family; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends. The visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016.
