Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Sarah Mitchell Carley, 89, of 3209 Cord Street, who passed away in her sleep on Sunday, December 6, 2009, will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Fortieth Street Baptist Church, 6020 N. 40th, Rev. Dr. George Saddler, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Sarah Mitchell Carley was a native of Thomasville, Georgia and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida. She spent the last 68 years in Tampa, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mamie Mitchell and siblings, James Thomas Mitchell, William James Mitchell and Lucille Thomas. She loved her family and friends and was a selfless person who generally loved helping other people without the need for acknowledgement. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Before her illness she was an active member of Fortieth Street Baptist Church, where she volunteered including her service on the building committee. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Flossie L. Gaines, Eddie Oscar Simpson, John Earl Simmons, James Simmons, Robert Louis Simmons, Leroy Simmons and Clarence Simmons; niece, Louise Thomas; cousins, Addie Sailor, Trudi Willis and Maddie Brown; daughters-in-law, Rebecca Simmons, Diana Scott-Simmons and Della Simmons; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. The viewing will be held Wednesday, December 9th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Thursday for the service.
