Obituary

SGM. Love was a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where he and his sister were baptized by the late Rev. Arthur Ashe and attended until he joined the military. While living in Kansas City, MO, he joined St. Stephen Baptist Church and obtained his new membership certificate. He was a lover of gospel and jazz music. He was a member of a small quartet group in his early years and acquired a collection of over 1,000 albums. He was a noted photographer and loved taking pictures at weddings and donated all pictures to the couples. He also was owner/operator of an 18-wheeler, driving for 28 years, until his health declined. Driving his truck was where he met Bro. Clifton Bailey, and they became friends until the end.

God truly blessed SGM. Love. Although he only had one devoted and caring sister, Fannie M. Keith, he adopted several soldiers as their father on his military journey, General(R) David Whaley, CW5(R) Albert Rhone and wife, Mary, Major(R) Gladys Farnum, SGM.(R) Tyrone LeCesne, CW4(R) Walker E. Davis, Jr.; sister-in-law, Barbara Hepburn-Ford of Petersburg; CW5(R) Lee K. Franklin, who brought SGM. Love into the mason organization, where he became a 32nd degree, and many more functions during his 35 years in the Army. He was preceded in glory by his parents, Sgt. Nathaniel Love and Julia Love-Hooks; grandmother, Fannie A. Smith; niece, Valerie Y. Thompson; great-niece, Erica B. Gaffney; and great-grandnephew, Me'Kehi Gaffney.

He left cherishing his memories: daughters, LaWanda Kay Love, Tampa, FL, and Mariel Love, Springfield, MA; adopted daughter, Lisa Mention, Tampa FL., nephews; Oscar F. Harris, Jr. and Rudolph J. Hills, Jr, both of Jacksonville, FL.; granddaughters, Maletha C.
