Obituary

Shawn Calloway, Jr., beloved father, son, partner, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend; departed this life on May 3, 2025, at the age of 27. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Shawn was a vibrant soul who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was known for his big heart, easy smile, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. Shawn was the cherished son of Tolana Mathis and Shawn Calloway, Sr.  who provided him with a strong foundation rooted in love and spirituality. Shawn attended Hillsborough County Schools and was a proud graduate of Spoto High School, class of 2016. He always stayed connected to his Tampa roots. He was raised in faith at First Union Missionary Baptist Church where he embraced the values of love, community, and perseverance; principles that helped shape his kind heart and generous spirit. Shawn had an undeniable flair for fashion, no matter the occasion his sense of style was as magnetic as his personality. He had a gift for making people laugh and smile, lighting up every room he entered with his humor and charm. He dedicated his career to the restaurant industry, where he became known for his skills, work ethic, and passion for his craft. Whether he was working the kitchen, managing a shift, or mentoring others, Shawn brought excellence, energy, and heart to everything he did.

Shawn now reunites in eternity with his beloved grandparents, Willie and Betty Calloway, Ronnie Simmons, Dan and Charlie Mae Mathis, and Evelyn Simmons; aunts and uncles, Olivian Mathis, Stephanie Monroe, Dorothy Pruitt, Audley, Jr. and Audrey Hills; Robert Barnum, Jr., Catalina Ransom and Dan Mathis, Jr.; as well as other cherished loved ones who went before him.

He is survived by his parents, Tolana Mathis and Shawn Calloway, Sr. (Pam); two beautiful children, Shawn III and Samir, whom he adored and raised with love alongside his partner, Barbara Class; siblings, Javaree Bell, Tashawna, Ja'Shawn,  Ty'Shawn, Jayse and Chance Calloway, and Adriana Cobb; grandparents, Lyndia Mathis-Hills (Audley, Sr.) and Patsy Simmons; 6 nephews; 2 nieces; aunts, Wankita Hardrick (Curtis), Yolanda and Natalie Simmons, Evelyn Hester (Roger), Sarah Barnum, Carol Baptiste, Betty Gaines (Dave), Salithia Mathis, Gloria Alexander (Mark), Bettie Calloway, and Marie Mosley; uncles, Frank Williams (Mildred), Derek, Sr. and Gerald Calloway, Willie Monroe, Sr., Joseph Echols, Lawrence Mathis, Sr. (Charlotte), Calvin Simmons (Tonia), Woodrow Simmons (Juanita), Gregory and Reginald Whitening; godmother, Tynesia Henry (Dwight); and special cousins, Cu'Niyah and Curtis, Jr. Hardrick, Ema Mann, Lakeria Jefferson (Jamal), Ayesha Thomas (Chonsse), Shaikara, Sha'Quayla, and Willie Monroe, Jr., Khadijiah Boone, Sentavia Watts, LaVay Roberson, Annissia and Gregory Gaines, Sr., Kim Williams, Nadia, McKayla, Brianna, Perys, and Nyree Pruitt, Iyanna Hall, Da'Khari and Derrion Henry, Stephen Carswell, Sr.; and a host of other cousins, family and friends. We will miss Shawn's laugh, his style, and his presence but we find peace in knowing that he rests now in God's embrace.
