Mr. Sheldon Donald Dennard affectionally known as "Cornbread" was born on November 17, 1945, in Tampa, Florida. He was the eighth child of nine born to the late Matthew and Tressa Dennard. Sheldon attended Howard W. Blake High School and was a graduate of the class of 1965. Mr. Dennard earned his degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge; LA. Sheldon was a veteran of the US Army and worked two full-time jobs with Hillsborough County Public Schools and the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation for 30 years. He was family oriented and full of life and love.
He was a great mentor and friend. Those that knew Cornbread knew he loved everyone. He lived his life to the fullest and encouraged everyone to do the same. He never met a stranger and was the life of the party everywhere he went.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Tressa Dennard; brother, Melvin Dennard, Sr.; and sisters, Shirley Dennard Watson, Audrey Dennard Parker, Barbara Jean Dennard Duncan, Wanda Dennard Gardner, and Lanara M. Dennard.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: daughters, Donna (Craig) Coleman, Atlanta, GA, and Selena C.B. Lemons, Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Styron (Jennifer) Batchelor, Kissimmee, FL, Styvon Burks, Craig Coleman, II, and Calah Coleman, of Atlanta, GA, Zachary, ZaKariah , and Zarius Lemons, all of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Yoshi and Stokley Batchelor; sisters, Gloria Dennard Collins of Los Angeles, CA and Brenda Dennard Thompson, of Plant City, FL; he also leaves to mourn a niece who was like a daughter, Rhonesia L. Dennard; special friends, Cynthia Bowden Jolly, Joe Williams, Henry "Shake" Washington, Ken Glover, Robert Dorsey and Bobby Fennell; his Southern University family, City of Tampa Parks and Recreation family, Blake High School family, Spruce Street family and goddaughters, Carla White-Sunday, Dr. JaMia Washington-Osunsanmi and Darlene Williams; special cousin, Eunive Massey; caregiver, Rosemary Dixon; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing friends.
