A homegoing celebration for Mr. Shelly Eugene Gainous of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, June 24, 2017 will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, 12:30 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Elder Harry Cloud, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. On the evening of June 24, 2017, life's journey for our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor came to an end. After a lengthy illness with nary a complaint, Shelly Eugene Gainous Sr. departed this life of pain and suffering to sleep and await Christ's return. Shelly was born on December 5, 1946 in Quincy, Florida to the union of the late Rebecca and Vancuren Gainous Sr. He resided and attended schools in Hillsborough County where he later married the former Gail P. Shaw. To this union, three daughters were born. Shelly was a lifetime resident of Tampa where he worked for a number of years at GAF Materials Corporation until his retirement due to declining health. He was preceded in death by his parents Rebecca and Vancuren Gainous Sr. and sister Gloria Dean Gainous. He leaves to cherish his memory with his devoted wife of 41 years, Gail Gainous; his son, Shelly Gainous Jr. and wife Tonya; his 3 daughters, Tiffany, Shalena and fianc Pretis Griffin, and Michelle Gainous; 8 grandchildren, Shelly Gainous III, Adrian Gainous, Nyema Harris, Drake Simmons, Ramon and Josiah Gainous, and Ronsear Harris, and Preston Griffin; 5 loving brothers, Edward 'Larry' Gainous, Vancuren 'Skip' Gainous Jr. and wife Helen, Oscar 'Pedo' Gainous, Antonio Gainous and wife Roselyn, Keith Gainous and wife Christine; 2 devoted sisters, Twila Gainous and Vanessa Grace and husband Derrick; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends too numerous to name. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Saturday, July 1st from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the services.
