Homegoing celebration for Ms. Shirlee J. Lewis who passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012, will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3005 E. Ellicott Street, Rev. Dr. T.W. Jenkins, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Shirlee J. Lewis was a native of Polk County (Fort Meade, FL.) and had resided in Tampa for the past 30 years. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age while attending Galilee Missionary Baptist Church (Fort Meade, FL.) She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the Adult #1 choir until health problems limited her participation. Ms. Lewis attended public school at Anna Woodbury for Elementary and Jr. High and Union Academy High School in Polk County. She also attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL for 2 years, after which she transferred and later graduated from Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL. (Orlando Campus) with a Bachelors of Science Degree. She earned her master's in Psychology from Springfield College, Massachusetts. (Tampa Campus). She was employed as an Addiction Counselor in Tampa, for some 19 years, 13 years with Dacco Women Program, 6 years with several juvenile facilities, Les Peters, Faulkenburg Academy and Sunshine Youth Sessions being the latest before retiring. She was preceded in death by her father, David L. Lewis, Sr.; mother, Mamie J. Lewis; stepbrother, John Lewis and uncle, William Johnson. She leaves to cherish her precious memories; son, Dewitt D. Jones, Jr.; former spouse and friend, Dewitt D. Jones, Sr.; sister, Gracie Lewis (Orlando, FL); brother, David L. Lewis, Jr. (New York, NY); nieces, Litenia King (Gregory) Johns Creek, GA., Michele Young (Jerry) Atlanta, GA., Lisa McCarthy, Warner Robins, GA., Veronica Tokay Fields (Donald), East Orange, NJ.; and nephews, Keith Palmer, Greensboro, NC., Shane Lewis, New York, NY., Darin Lewis, New York, NY., and David Taliferro, Jefferson City, TN.; and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd Tampa, FL., on Friday, April 6th from 5-8 with the family receiving guest from 5-6 p.m.
