A homegoing celebration for Ms. Shirley Y. Simmons of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. Rev. Michael Neely, officiating. The interment will follow. Ms. Shirley Y. Simmons, age 64, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Tampa General Hospital. She was born July 8, 1952 to the late Lucille Milton in St Petersburg, FL. Ms. Simmons loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling. Her favorite teams were the Golden State Warriors, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins. Ms. Simmons loved going out to dinner with close friends and her family. She was a member of St John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded her in death her mother, Lucille Pridgen, five uncles, Blanche Richardson, Benjamin Richardson, Johnnie Richardson, Joseph Richardson, Freddie Richardson, and aunt, Ella Mae Hancock. Ms. Simmons leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted son, Kayin B. Simmons; stepfather, Hayward Fountain; brothers, John (Pearl) Robinson, Curtis (Betty) Robinson, Alvin Stevens, Melvin Pridgen, Ronald Pridgen, Ricky (Tanya) Pridgen, Danny Pridgen; sisters, Carolyn Cherry, Jackie Robinson; Uncle, Joe (Mazelle) Milton; special sister, Betty Haynes; special cousins, Juanita (Phillip) Robinson, Mamie Beatrice Kelley, Edna (Curtis) Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
