A Memorial service for Mr. Slater Mazion of Tampa, Florida who departed this life on Monday, January 20, 2020 will be held on Saturday February 1, 2020, 12:00 p.m. at Rivers of Life Church, 301 Lakewood Drive, Brandon, FL 33510, Curtis A Swafford, pastor officiating. Slater was born on October 20, 1945in Bradenton, Florida. Slater was a native of Bradenton, Florida and moved to Tampa, Florida with family in the early 70's where he worked as an iron worker all over the U.S. Slater nicknamed 'Sweet Brown Sugar' served his community as a coach and mentor in football, softball, baseball and Peewee to Big League Baseball. Slater spent his daily life helping many of his friends with whatever they needed done. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed planting flowers, vegetables, collards and hot peppers. He was known for his killer hot sauces and loved to barbeque and fish, outdoors was his domain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Slater Mazion, Sr. and mother, Marie Mazion; brother, Donnell Mazion and sister, Sheryl Mazion. Slater leaves to be loved in his absence wife, Dorothy Lee Silas Mazion; children, Sheldon, Slater III, Sheila, Richard, Bridget D. and Rodney Mazion; sisters, Glorida J. Everhart, Lena G. Roberson; Ann Mazion; 15 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and R.O.L. church family.
