Obituary

From the very beginning, Steve Lamar Jackson, affectionately known as “Mayo,” brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable energy into the lives of everyone around him after being born on August 15, 1970, in Tampa, Florida. Steve was a proud graduate of Everett’s Residential Electrician Program in 2014, proving it was never too late to sharpen your skills and light up the world; both literally and figuratively. Handy with tools and gifted with wisdom, Steve could fix just about anything except a losing Buccaneers season. If you knew Steve, you knew he loved cooking up meals that brought everybody to the table, fishing trips filled with stories bigger than the catch, and family gatherings where his laughter could be heard clear across the yard. He adored spending time with children and family, always stepping into the role of protector, peacemaker, and biggest entertainer in the room. Steve was truly the life of the party; a natural jokester with a happy spirit that made everyone feel at home. Whether he was cracking jokes, grilling food, helping somebody fix something, or passionately cheering for his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Steve brought joy everywhere he went. And no matter the score, you could always count on hearing his favorite saying: “What about those Bucs?” More than anything, Steve will be remembered for his loving heart, playful soul, and the way he made people laugh even on hard days. His presence was comforting, his personality unforgettable, and his love for family unwavering.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Chisholm; brother, Corey L. Hill; sister, Pamelyn Jackson; aunts, Lou Jean Gaines and Ollie Mae Jackson; and uncles, William Jackson, Willie Jackson, Benjamin Jackson, and Robert Jackson, Jr.

He leaves cherished memories to his mother, Louise Jackson; sons, Malcolm Lett and Tranorris Jackson; grandchildren, Tra’niyah Jackson, Keyshawn Jackson, Tranorris Jackson, Jr., Syrenity Vickers, Bre’ille Jackson, Briella Jackson and Maxwell Jackson; brother, Ricky Chisolm; sisters, Shelia Jackson, Angela Jackson and Taquisha Chisolm; aunt, Frances Poole; uncles, Tony Jackson, Charlie Jackson and Joseph Jackson; nieces, Shantell Davis, Latroya Davis and Kenisha Jackson; nephew, Rashad Jackson; great-nieces, Breanna King, Auriyana Nobles, Rashana Jackson and Rakayla Jackson; great-nephews, Cameron Jackson-Freeman, Rashad Jackson, Jr. and Rakhi Jackson; a host of cousins including the Pooles, Gaines, Tylers, Chisolms and Jacksons; special friends, Pete and Paulette; along with a host of other loving relatives. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well-lived, well-loved, and well-laughed. Steve leaves behind countless memories, stories, smiles, and a legacy of love that will continue to live on through all who knew him. Rest easy, Mayo — and somewhere up above, we know you’re still asking…“What about those Bucs?”
