Synthia Moten was born on February 18, 1957, in Tampa, Florida to Charles Moten and Joyce Watkins. Synthia graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1975. She graduated from Tracey Warner School of Fashion Design, where she received the Silver Thimble in her class. Synthia enjoyed traveling the world and exploring new territories such as Egypt and Kenya. Synthia loved dancing, cooking, and sewing. Synthia was known to be full of laughter and joy. Synthia was a courageous and resilient woman.

Synthia was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Moten and Joyce Watkins; grandparents, George Watkins Sr., Willie Mae Moten, Sylvester Moten Jr., Sylvester Moten Sr., and Sally Moten; uncles, Lee Ellis Green, Andrew Jackson, and Johnny Moten; aunt, Mary Alice, Elizabeth Maxey, Vera Goldwire, Aretha Kelly, and Aileane Cooper; cousins, Lekenya Cooper, Milo Cooper, and Cornelius "Ricky" Williams.

Synthia leaves precious memories with her husband, Michael Phillps; son, Marlon Moten; grandchildren, Giovanni Jones, Alease and Joshua Young ; brothers, Rodney and Darren Moten (Yolanda), and Zeron Hall (Karen); sisters, Charlene and Jean Moten, Carlene Pearson, and Yolanda Pearson-Robinson; uncles, George Watkins Jr., James and Rufus Moten; aunts, Vivian Hunt, and Sally Crawford; nieces, Charkeena McKinnie, Terikeena Williams, Joyce and Sabrina Moten, Zekevia Hall, Carlysia Levert, Cyndee Butler, and Milan Robinson; nephews, Darren Moten Jr., Zeron Moten, and Elias Kimber; great-newphews, TraRiveo Callaway, NaThario Fagan, and Kaison Pugh; great-niece, Kamiyah Williams; cousins, Evora, and Kenneth Cooper; Mario Nobles, Paulette Green, Kieve McCloud, and Timothy Kelly, Selina, Timothy, and Mark Jackson, Nicole Campbell; special friends, Sara Smith, and Annette Jackson-Gambrell; and a host of other family and friends.
