Tammy Renay Maleus, a beacon of warmth and joy, passed away on October 18, 2024, in Brooksville, FL, after a valiant battle with lung and liver cancer, followed by cardiac arrest. Born on January 1, 1962, in Lakeland, FL, Tammy's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She shared her life generously, touching hearts with her loving, kind, and funny nature.
Tammy spent her formative years in Tampa, where she attended local schools and completed her education up to the 10th grade. She followed a path of compassion, much like her mother and aunt Bertha, finding her calling as a home health aide and caregiver. Her dedication to this vocation was unwavering, as she committed herself to the well-being and comfort of those in her care.
A loving mother, Tammy is survived by her children, Cara Walters, Danielle Maleus, Eric Macelus and Terri Dooley. Each of them embodies her spirit of generosity and love. Her siblings, Walter Barnes, Lamarvin Brown, Faye Ruise, Lori Barnes, and Debra Wallace, remember her as the glue that held the family together, always ready with a joke or a hug. Tammy was a cherished niece to Roberta Bogan, Bert Barnes, Robert Barnes, Chester Barnes Sr, and Will Lee Barnes, all of whom played a significant role in her life.
The legacy of Tammy's love is also carried on by her adored grandchildren, Quantravious Daniels, Tanijah Hall, Imani Hall, Mariya Hall, Dandre Hall, Aleena Ross, Zariya Walters, Zakirah Walters, Ziyan Walters, Alexis Macelus, Omarianna Barker, Caicyn Mathis, and Camryn Dooley. They were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Tammy's nieces and nephews—Walter Barnes Jr, Nicole Johnson, Shante Kelly, Corey Thompson, Ashley Brown, Marice Ruise, Brittany Ruise, Shaquanda Brown, Lamarvin Brown Jr, and Lamarvin Brown—will remember her for her boundless energy and the joy she brought to family gatherings. Her great-nieces and great-nephews, A'mya Kelly, Dejah Joiner, Amari Stubbs, Dajuanna Terry, Arianna Terry, RayAnna Cotton, Aubrianna Cotton, Helaina Ruise, Alexander Thompson, Jakoria Thompson, Kori Thompson, Corey Thompson Jr, Marcus Ruise, Gina Ruise, Zeda Ruise, Kyla Brown, Nala Brown, Manuel Santos, Jazlene Santos, Thalia Brown, and Zavion Brown, will carry forward the tales of her kindness and laughter.
Tammy's extended family, including her cousins Sheryl Grady, Angela Barnes, Yolanda Anderson, Niecy Barnes, Chester Barnes Jr, Shericia Byrd, and in-laws Latoya Brown, Marvin Ruise, and Theresa Porter, will miss her dearly. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she in theirs.
Outside of her family and work, Tammy had a passion for the excitement and thrill of the casino. Her luck was legendary, and she often returned with tales of triumph that would light up any room. Her love for life was infectious, and she never missed an opportunity to share her joy with those around her.
Tammy Renay Maleus lived her life with an unshakable faith in the goodness of people and the power of a smile. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her journey. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the love and happiness she spread throughout her sixty-two years.
In her departure, Tammy leaves behind a world that is brighter for her having been in it. Her spirit, so full of love and humor, will continue to guide and inspire those she loved. Though she has passed from this world, the impact of her kind and funny soul will resonate for generations to come.
