Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Tereza Atherly, of Tampa FL., who passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, will be held on Saturday, March 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Rev. Jane Wedall, officiating. The interment will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Tereza Atherly was a native of Troy, Alabama, and a resident of Tampa, FL, for 40 years. She attended preschool in Troy, AL but finished her education in Tampa, FL. She accepted Christ at an early age, under the leadership of the late Dr. L.C. McMillian, Bethel Baptist Church of Troy, AL. She had a passion for singing in the choir. She enjoyed reading and cooking. She had a special passion and love for her children and grandchildren. Most people will remember her beautiful smile and white teeth. She had a love for all the people that she met. Tereza was preceded in death by her father, Teofilo Atherly Sr.; brother, Teofilo Atherly Jr.; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Atherly, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Carlisle. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Derrick Hunter, Donnesha Smith, Donald Smith III, Donna Smith, and Ronnicka Crawley, all of Tampa, FL; mother, Queen Atherly, of Troy, AL; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Antonio Atherly of New Orleans, LA, and Orlando Atherly of Troy, AL; aunts, Myrtle McKinney of Monticello, NY, Elizabeth Berry of Millbrook, AL, Florence Tucker (Tim) of Troy, AL, Jackie Atherly of Monticello, NY, Barbara, and Annie Ree, both of Tampa, FL; uncles, Rev. A.R. Andrews of Troy, AL, Bobby Carlisle (Anna) of Sylacauga, AL, and Bobby Atherly; cousin, Pamela Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
