Theresa Carol Shuler, at the age of 70, passed away on August 21, 2024. She was a
beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Theresa was born on July 25, 1954, to John Walker and Theresa Redmon Johnson, in
Tampa, Florida, where she resided all her life. She attended Howard W. Blake High
School and graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1972. She attended Knoxville
College in Knoxville, TN, majoring in early childhood education. She later became a
teacher with the School Board of Hillsborough County. In 2010, Theresa received a
nomination for the Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year award for promoting
diversity in the classroom and community. She retired in 2015 after 36 years of teaching.
Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for
encouraging children to do their best. Theresa's most cherished role was that of a mother.
She adored her children, spending countless hours sharing stories, playing games, and
imparting knowledge even before they entered formal education. Her unwavering
support, guidance, and encouragement were always there, a beacon of light in the face of
any challenge.
In her free time, Theresa enjoyed going to the movies and was a
passionate line dancer. Her community spirit was reflected in her active church
involvement. She was a dedicated member of Living Faith Assembly of God, under
Pastor Malcolm Burleigh, where she received the Woman of The Year Award in 2003.
Later, she continued her service as a greeter and a lay counselor at citylife Church, under
Pastor Tony Stewart. Theresa was preceded in death by her father and mother; brother,
Donley Harris; and daughter, Toyka J. Shuler Crooms. She is survived by her loving
husband of 47 years, Eugene M. Shuler; daughter, Erika M. Shuler; brother, Anthony
Harris; sisters, Tammy Gordon, Anissa McNeil (Eric), and Shelia Walker; sister-in-law,
Carolyn D. Lundy; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her
memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Flowers are accepted, or you may donate
