Obituary

Homegoing services for Mrs. Julia Montgomery Timmons of Tampa, who passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, will be held on Saturday, June 9th, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village, 8616 Progress Boulevard, with Rev. Dr. Samuel Maxwell, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Julia Montgomery Timmons was born May 17, 1937 in Sumter, SC to the parents of Ingram and Loris Montgomery who preceded her in death. She was united in holy matrimony to Willie B. Timmons Sr. for 19 years. To this union 4 loving children were born. They relocated to Tampa in the late 50's and made their home in Paul Smith Apartments and later Progress Village. She attended public schools in Sumter, SC. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Morris College in Sumter, SC. She also received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Tampa. She was an Educator for 33 years with Hillsborough County Public Schools system and retired in 1995. Due to her love for children and education she continued mentoring and tutoring at various schools throughout Hillsborough County. She received Christ at an early age at LaGree AME church in Sumter, SC. After relocating to Florida she became a member of First Baptist Church of Progress Village in the early 60's under the pastorate of Rev. B. T. Williams and later Rev. Roosevelt Robinson Jr. and current Pastor Dr. Sam Maxwell. She was very active in the Music Ministry where she continuously shared her melodious voice rending song service as she sang with the William Jubilees, Mass Choir, and the Celebration Choir. She was a graduate of the first graduating class of the Faith Bible Institute in December 2002.She was very active in the Progress Village community working with the Progress Village Little League Baseball, Progress Village Civic Council, Philoettes Social Club, block captain and crime watch liaison for 83rd street in Progress Village. She served 13 years with the Progress Village Panthers Football and Cheerleading organization as Assistant Treasurer and concession stand manager. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie B. Timmons, and 11 siblings. She departed this earthly life to answer the call of her loving Savior on Monday, June 4, 2012. She leaves to cherish precious memories with a loving and faithful daughter and care giver, Daralyn Timmons-Doby (Mark); 3 caring and dedicated sons, Tyrone (Twilla) Timmons, Willie B. (Tammy) Timmons, Ozzie (Kimberly) Timmons, adopted son Phillip Darns, and step daughter Donna (Kwabena) Dinizula; 13 grandchildren Tyrone (LaVoryia) Timmons, Darrell Doby Jr., Sierra Timmons, Haley Timmons, Derron Doby, Willie Timmons III, Ozzie Timmons Jr., Dyllun Timmons, Marnika and Keyon Jones, Tenisha, Tiffany and Allison; 3 great grandchildren, Makhi Timmons, Micah Nelson and Teagan Timmons; 3 brothers Archie (Louise) Montgomery and Stanley (Gladys) Montgomery of Sumter, SC, Horace (Jessie) Montgomery of Tampa, FL; best friend Rosemary McKinney-Amiel; goddaughters, Monique McKinney and Nicole Amiel; friend, Harold Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives and friends. A very special thank you to Adriana Carey from Homestead nursing services. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 8th, from 7-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Church on Saturday for the service at 10:45 a.m.
