Homegoing celebration for Staff Sergeant Tony Munzel Oliver of Tampa who passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 will be held on Friday, December 23rd, 5:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Rev. George Martin, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. It came to pass in the year of our Lord, 1955, on June 7, 1955 in Tampa, Florida, a darling baby boy was born to the late Alfred Oliver and Constance Richardson Oliver and they named him, Tony Munzel. Tony grew up in a Christian home, was converted at an early age, and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York. He later joined St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until he left the Tampa bay area for active duty in the United States Army, where he served 17 years before he retired. Tony was loved and respected by all who knew him and acquired many friends who were saddened by his demise, which came quietly in the early morning hours of Monday December 19, 2011, at the age of 56. Tony attended the public schools of Hillsborough County, graduated from King Senior High School, and later graduated in 1976 from Bell & Howell University, Atlanta Georgia with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. In 1976, Tony joined the United States Military and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Army before he retired with honors in 1992. Tony met and married Cynthia Borders and to that union they were blessed with three loving and devoted daughters, Tracy Monique Oliver, Caralecia Edwena Oliver, and Toni Munelda Oliver-Gomez of Tampa, Florida. Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Richardson Oliver; father, Alfred Oliver; grandfathers', Wilson (Buddy) Richardson and Lige Oliver; grandmothers', Irene (Nana) McCall and Eunice Oliver; grandfather, Roosevelt McCall, Aunt and Uncles' Beatrice and Hezekiah Leff, Irene B. Ellis and Theron Morris. He was the devoted father of 3 daughters of Tampa, FL; Tracy Monique Oliver, Caralecia Edwena Oliver, and Toni Munelda Oliver-Gomez and husband, Eddie Gomez. Proud grandfather of 5 grandchildren of Tampa, Florida; Caryn T' Niece Smith, Z'Mya Alecia Smith, Jeremy Johnson, Jr., Jordan Aalyiah Gomez and Eli Giovanni Gomez; adored and admired his loving 4 sisters of Tampa, Florida; Brenda Oliver Martin and husband Rev. George, Irene Oliver, Triniece Oliver-Judge, and Constance Oliver-Washington; 4 special nephews, Davale, Jamaal, Jabari and Jelani; a special brother-in-law, Russell Judge; a special uncle, Herman Morris, and a host of other sorrowing, nieces, nephews, grand, great-grand nieces, nephews and other sorrowing, family and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral home on Friday from 4-5 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel for the service.
