Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Valerie McQuay of Tampa who passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, will be held on Saturday, February 16th, 2:30 p.m. at Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church, 1605 N. Nebraska Ave., Elder Theodis Lane, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Valerie was born December 15, 1955 in Tampa, Florida to the late Willie McQuay and Jenelle Anderson. She attended schools in Hillsborough County where she participated as a dancerette at Leto High School. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren and could often times be found at the homes of one of her children spending time with her family. She had a great love for the Lord and found comfort in reading her bible and having bible study with Mother Rachel. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sheila Montgomery, significant other, Donald Chaney, aunt, Annette Strong, dear cousins, Patricia Dennis and Peggy Dozier and best friend, Annie Ruth Woodard. She leaves to cherish her memory: 4 devoted children, 1 loving son, Richie Grayes and fiancAC., Jossey; 3 loving daughters, Reca Grayes, Kimie Grayes and friend, Stephen and Tracey C. and friend, Joshua; 11 grandchildren, whom she loved and adored, Takeiah, Kimiah, Ronnisia, Tierra, Tariq, Jazzlin, Ramari, Jayda, Chaise, Amani and Joshua; special friend, Larry Cobb; sisters, Almetta Patmon and Deborah Patmon and Tommy; brothers, Abdul Latif Umar, Todd Montgomery and Twila, Willie McQuay, Jr. and wife, Diane, Adell Montgomery, Reynaldo McQuay and wife, Huellen, Kelvin McQuay and Cynt and Fitzgerald McQuay; step-father, Curtis Anderson; aunts, Claire Wilson and Mammie Walker; nieces, Shauntel and husband, Ronnie, Tynecia, Jenelle, Rayana, Stephanie and Shanika; nephews, Erick and wife, Becky, Gerald and wife, Latonya, Kendrick and wife, Donald, Dermaine, Demille, Christopher, Todd, Jr., Terrance, Jason, Terrino, Jack, Tony, Adell, Jr., Tyron, William Joseph, Michael, Jr. and Steven; very special and devoted cousins, Gail and husband, Carl and family, Bobbi "Rene" Strong and family, Teresa Wilson and family and McQuay family; close and devoted friends, Edmond Hill, Dorothy Davenport, Richard Grayes and family, Brenda, Bernard, Will, Tonya, Mother Rachel, Ms. Ann, Judy Everette, Ms. Francis, Lucy, and the Harris's; and a host of other relatives and friends; like daughters, Valtina, Alicia, Shana, Curshetis, Tamara and Tangi; the family would like to acknowledge all of the relatives and friends of Valerie even thought everyone could not be listed please know you were not forgotten. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 15th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. The friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Saturday.
