Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Van B. Scott of Tampa, who passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 will be held on Wednesday, April 6th, 1:00 p.m. at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, 5202 86th Street South, Pastor Michael B. Price I, eulogist with Rev. James D. Sykes, officiating. The interment will be in Serenity Meadows Cemetery, Riverview, Florida. Van B. Scott was born on March 6, 1930 in Dell, Georgia to the late Simon and Lena Eggleton where she lived until she married Raymond Scott and relocated to Tampa, Florida in 1960. Immediately arriving to Tampa, Van walked with her husband to become one of the founding couples of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church - Progress Village, in 1961. As a lifetime member of St. James, she held multiple positions: Stewardess, Sunday School teacher, YPD Director, Choir #1 President, Usher Board Leader, and a member of the Culinary Ministry just to name a few. Van was a beautician prior to becoming employed with Hillsborough County Public Schools where she later retired. She also served the Progress Village community by being a Brownie leader for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Scott; parents, Simon and Lena Eggleton; sisters, Mattie Bell Travis, Ada Eggleton, Eula Eggleton-Barnett, Pricilla Oates and Doris Eggleton. She leaves to cherish her memories with her godchildren, Diane Ray, Purcell Bradley, Debra Bliss; Jamesina Jamie' Wilburn, Robin Johnson, Shaver Nard' Clemons, Rev. Bryant Fayson, Judy Daymon; sisters-in-law, Mary Baldwin (Walter) and Essie Curtis; brothers-in-law, Alonzie Scott, Sr. (Gwen), George Scott, Sr. (Ruth) and Edward Scott; host of loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and the St. James AME family; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday for the service.
