Verdell Delores Bell Rodgers, the eighth child of Aster Bell, Sr. and Leola Norwood Bell was born on October 14, 1935, in Tampa, Florida. She attended public schools in Tampa and graduated from Middleton Senior High School. She worked at Morrison Pharmacy for 35 years before retiring to care for ill family members. She was a faithful and devoted lifetime member of Greater Mt. Carmel AME Church.

Verdell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Rodgers, Sr., 6 brothers, and 2 sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory children, Deborah Ann Sampson, Michael Sampson, Sr., Earnest Rodgers, Jr., and Tonya Rodgers; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-great-grandchildren, close friend, Ethel Bellamy, and cousin, Betty Bell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
