Obituary

Verna was born on August 6, 1952, to Morris and the late Gloria Ophelia Glenn. She attended school in Hillsborough Public School System and graduated in 1970 from the first class at Tampa Bay Technical High School. After graduation, she attended Florida A.M University in Tallahassee Fl for 1 year. In 1988, she attended and graduated from the University of South Florida with an Associate of Arts degree in December 1999 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. Verna worked at General Telephone Company for 11 years and after then, several small jobs. In July 1986, she joined the staff of the University of South Florida office of the registrar, where she worked until her retirement in 2014 after working 30 years.

Growing up, Verna attended and was baptized at First Baptist Church of College Hill, where she attended with her mom until 1964. Afterwards, she began attending church with her father at the St. Luke A. M.E Church in Tampa. After leaving FAMU, she joined the Browns Temple Church
of God in Christ, until 1977. Late 1977, she was converted and baptized at the Mt. Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she worshipped until 1989. At that time, she transferred her membership to the Progress Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Verna has been very active in various church ministries, including but not limited to: ushering, sabbath school teacher, sabbath school secretary, finance committee,community service, homeless ministry, singing evangelist, technology team and pathfinders.

Verna had a love for helping others and giving back to those in need. Verna was one of the starting members of the North Central and South Florida Usher Federation. Vernas heart has always been with the Pathfinder Ministry. She joined the Pathfinder Club at Mt Calvary in 1977 and became a master guide under the late Pastor Eugene Armstead and Pastor Keith Dennis. She earned the Pathfinder Leadership Award in 2009. Vernas worked with the Pathfinder Clubs at Mt Calvary, Thonotosassa, and Progress Village; where she worked as deputy director under the late Charlie and the late Rosa Hamilton. She became director of the Progress Village club in 2002. Verna has worked within the southeastern conference in various positions in the Pathfinder Federation. She was also assistant area coordinator for district 3 under the Late Rosa Hamilton and Walter Reddick, before she was elected as area coordinator in 2012. Verna was very active in the Pathfinder Federation serving as honor specialist, registrar, treasurer, and working on various camporees from Camp Hale International in 1985 to International Camporee in Oshkosh,WI.

Verna was married to the Late Willie Edd Williams, Sr., John Robert Dennis and Harold Leon Henderson.

Verna was preceded in death by mother, Gloria Ophelia Glenn; grandparents, Morris Sr., Sarah Glenn and Arabell Wiggins; sister, Ethel Glen; brother, Christopher Troupe; aunts, Mabel Baldwin, Francine Beamon, and Nancy Grant; uncles, Horace Glenn, Monroe Glenn, and David Glenn.

Verna leaves to cherish fond memories, her father, Morris Glenn, Jr.; four amazing children, Lenora Williams (Covington, GA), Willie E. Williams Jr., Monica Barksdale, Kemuel Henderson (Sommer), all of Tampa, Fl; best friends: Murline Wright and Jeanette Thompson; sister, Patricia Glenn (West Virginia); brothers, Wayne Glenn (Juanita), Stewart Glenn (Margie), Tommie Glenn (Tampa), Mario Glenn (Ocala); aunts; Annie Larkins, Thelma Gainey, and Florence Joseph; uncles, Thomas Glenn, and Willie Larkins; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece/daughter, Keiana (Nikki) Glenn; godmother; Opal Lattimore; godchildren; Alicia Banks (Ricky), John Stewart (Leticia), Shalandria Wright, Lawrence Cole, and the youth of Progress Village Pathfinder Ministry.
