Victoria Elizabeth (Govan) Williams Brown, fondly known as "Vicky" was born and raised in Tampa, FL on July 6, 1935. She was the first of five children born to Dora Govan. She was a lifelong resident and was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County. She graduated from Middleton High School class of 1954 where she was captain of the Drill Team in the schools famous marching band. Vicky gave her life to Christ at an early age at St. James PB Church, pastored by Rev. R Taylor.
As an adult she also became a member of Oak Hill MB Church, pastored by Rev. Levi Nelson. She met Nathaniel Brown Sr. of Gainesville, FL at the East Buffalo Drive-In theatre, where she worked and the two were soon joined in holy matrimony. Nathaniel and Victoria moved to Progress Village in 1960 to raise their family and there she joined The First Baptist Church of Progress Village pastored by Rev. B.T. Williams, and later Rev. Roosevelt. Robinson, Jr., and her current Pastor Dr. Sam Maxwell. She was a member of the Celebration Choir, the Community High Noon Prayer Band, and the Red Hatters Club. Vicky was one of the first Black employees hired by K-Mart Brandon and attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the stores Grand Opening. She retired from K-Mart Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Tech after 25 years of service.
Her motto for life was "God is good all the time and all the time God is good."
Victoria was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nathaniel Brown Sr.; mother, Dora Elizabeth Garrett; grandmother, Elizabeth Govan; siblings, Catherine Peterson, Earnestine Harris, and Joseph Garrett, Jr.; aunt and uncle, Amy Stokes and Elmer Govan; granddaughter, Jada Elizabeth Barner; cousin, W.P. Stokes, Jr.; nephews, Cedric and Cornelius Durham.
Vicky leaves to cherish loving memories with her children, Nefertiti Brown, Debra Smith (Tony), Sondra Brown, Kathy B. Tisdale (Randall), Nathaniel Jr. (Kathy), Marcus "Tony" Brown (Cherie); adopted son, William (BJ) Thompson (Yolanda); sisters, Patricia McDaniels and Barbara (Carl) Cobb; sisters-in-law, Leslie G Brown, Alene Sheba, and Barbara Freeman; grandchildren, Bobby Jr, Devin (Tameka), Jamille & Camille Barner, Travis Perdue, Michael Tim, Randy (Olympia), Maurice and Ryan-Nathan Tisdale, Nyona, Kailah, and Tariah Brown, Steven Anderson, DyShawn Vance; great-grandchildren, Bobby III (BJ), Jayla, Jaylon Barner, Louis, Nat and Haans, Kyrie Peele, Makiya, Maleeah and Mikel Tim, Mateo, Noah and Logan Tisdale; nieces and nephews, Sheri Lynn (Charzelle) Baker, Crystal (Limbert) Hodges, Victoria Bush, Andre and Charlie Peterson, Derrick Anderson, Zelda Harris, LaVaria Michelle Garrett, DeQuan McDaniels, Shawn P. Brown, Glenetta Rutledge, Jarrod, Katronda, Alvin, Anita, Reneesha, Larry, Marquise (Meghan), LaToya, Danielle, Tammy, Tamika, Calvin, and Arthur; Cousins, James, Joseph, Jaime, Mary, Sharon (London) Stokes, Timothy, Stacey, Myron, Amy and Willie Paul Stokes III; Godchildren, Victoria Davis-Saho, Judy Davis and Julius Darren Davis. Devoted friends, Gloria Wilson-Davis, Spring Watson, Emanuel P Johnson, Nita Conyers, Barbara Little, and Rosie Gurley along with her many friends of The Progress Village Senior Center. A host of loyal family, friends, and neighbors that she loved who are too numerous to name.
