Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Wade W. Wilson, Sr., of Tampa who passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, will be held on Friday, May 13th, 10:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, with Rev. Robert Glass, officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Wade W. Wilson Sr. was born on February 14, 1937, to the parentage of Shep and Mamie Wilson, in Houston, Alabama. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1954 at the age of 16 as Class Valedictorian. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy specializing in Communications. He retired from the US Navy in 1974 after devoting 21 years of service. After his retirement, Po-Boy wanted to keep busy, and was employed by the General Service Administration where he was part of the building inspection team at Timberlake Federal Building and Annex. He later enrolled in Hillsborough Community College where he obtained his Associates Degree in Business Management. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and family gatherings. In the early morning hours of May 3, 2011 Po-Boy made the transition to that Heavenly Home prepared for him. He was preceded in death by his parents: Shep Wilson and Mamie L. Donald; sisters, Odessa Wilson Clark and Tommie Jean Donald; brothers, Odie C. Donald Jr. (Hick) and John Thomas Wilson (Chick). He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Annie Ruth; six children: Wade Jr.(Mattie), Michelle Wilson, Montgomery, AL, Michael Wilson (Cassandra), Ronald Wilson and wife Betty, LaVetrice Wilson, Bobby Wilson and wife Jackie; eighteen grandchildren: Michelle and husband Steve, Laquanna and husband Calvin, Wade III (Tameka), Lateema (Anthony), Ronneka and husband Joshua, Phillip, Chantina, Kenny Sr., Joshua, Annie, Bobby Jr., Benjamin, Curtis, Rickey, Ethel, Rose, Willie and wife Lori, Bruce and wife Lekeisha; seventeen great-grandchildren: Otis, Ronika, Lanika, Destiny, Xavier, Joshua, Michael, Wadenisha, Kalise, Serenity, Anthony, Wade IV, Jordan, Kenny Jr. Amari, Ja'darian, Camoon; one brother: Daryell Wilson; three sisters: Rosa Mitcham and husband Thomas, Ernestine "Tina" Davis, Brenda Faye Rhett-Kelly and husband Frank; four uncles: Albert Wilson and wife Retha, Lonnie Powell Sr. and wife Annie Ray of Tampa, FL Eugene Scaffold, Curtis Scaffold and wife Catherine of Gordon, AL; five aunts: Julia Graham, Sara L. Smith, Lilly M. Hunter, Rena and husband Herbert of Jenkins, GA and Ollie Mae Little, West Palm Beach, FL; four sister-in-laws: Louise "Big Sister" Reeves, Freddie Redding, Celestine "Cookie: Jackson and husband Jerome of Ashford, AL, Ethel Mae Knight, Washington D.C.; two brother-in-laws: Bobby Ray Smith (Viveana), Mickey Smith (Peggy); one special cousin, Beatrice Teal, San Antonio, TX; special friends: Bobby (Doc), Brown, Willie T. McBride Panama City, FL and Herbert H. Bowers Des Moines, IA, and a host of nieces, nephews and other sorrowing relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Thursday, May 12th from 4-7 p.m. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Family and Friends are asked to meet at the Chapel at 9:45 a.m. on Friday for the service.
