Walter Martin
Danzey
December 20, 1934 – September 4, 2022
Mr. Walter Martin Danzey was born Thursday, December 20th, 1934, to Pat Danzy (original spelling) and Essie V. Wimes in Capps, Alabama. He was the fourth son of five children. His siblings were his oldest sister, Willie Hazel, and older brothers Oscar Johnny, Ford Hubert (Fred), and youngest brother, Lettle Gus. His older siblings and parents preceded him in death.
In his thirties, he was a mechanic and owned an automobile repair shop. He was an avid automobile enthusiast and could tell you which cars were worth buying or not. He especially enjoyed sports cars and racing cars. In 1963, he married Josephine James, and 5 stepchildren were added to this union. Walter's three children, Barbara, Trone, and Larry, and Josephine's two daughters, Taanah and Yvonne James from a previous marriage. To this union were born three children, Sceniorette, Maurice, and Rayling. Barbara and Trone preceded him in death. During their marriage, Walter Martin served as a minister in Brooklyn, New York at two churches, in the early 1960s and 1970s. The first was Open Door COGIC in Brooklyn N.Y. the church of his uncle and aunt, Pastor Curtis, and Sister Katherine Bryant. Later, he served under Pastor C. Jenkins of Jenkins Thriving Temple. During this period, he became an employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a mechanic.
After this marriage ended in divorce, he moved to Tampa, Florida. There he met Annie Flournoy, a diet technician for St. Josephs Hospital. They were married on February 14, 1982. To this union were brought four stepchildren. Linda, Alfred, Darrell, and Anthony Flournoy. In 1985 he was certified and worked as a Fleet Service Specialist with Goodyear. This was an accomplishment he was proud of. He worked with Goodyear till his retirement.
Walter Martins education came from being a student of the "school of life." He had a sharp mind and a photographic memory. He just remembered everything and was a very keen observer of people. He would watch a persons ways and then sum up their character.
Walter Martin was a man of ambition and ideas. Well into his senior years he wanted to start another business and even invest in property. He was an armchair political analyst, sports commentator, people watcher, and observer of the world and people around him. He had no use for people who had no goals or work ethic. But he admired people who accomplished things and finished what they started. He was a great cook and one of his specialties was barbeque ribs. He would make bottles of barbeque sauce to send with his children whenever they would visit. He loved his children and kept pictures of them, his parents, and siblings in prominent places in the home he shared with Annie.
Walter Martin's favorite place to be was on his porch with his three televisions on, each one on a different channel while he commented on sports, politics, old western movies, and the Bible. Though He no longer attended church and had faults and rough patches in his personality, he kept his faith in God. He always had his beloved mother's bible within arm's reach on the table beside him. Walter Martin even had a last message to preach telling us that the trailblazer would soon be burning up the road on his way to preach his last message. And this is his last message..."I told the Lord don't leave me down here with these people. Take me up there with you. So, I'm waiting for Jesus to send me a little white cloud that I can get on and ride." He slipped away on that cloud after a two-week hospital stay from a heart attack. Ride on, trailblazer, ride on.
He leaves behind his wife, Annie Danzey; sons, Larry (Bridgette) Danzey, and Ricky Maurice Danzey; daughters, Sceniorette (Tony) Owens, and Rayling Danzey; stepsons, Darrell and Anthony Flournoy; grandchildren, Larry Danzey, Jr., Travis Coy, Deandra Danzey, Leandra Danzey, Christian Owens, Grace Owens, DeMarcus Danzey, and Daniel Danzey; great-grandchildren, Travis J.
