Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mr. Wardell Butler, Jr., of Tampa, Florida who passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 will be held Saturday, April 19th at 2:00 p.m., New Mount Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Pastor Larry Roundtree II, officiating. Interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Mr. Wardell Butler, Jr. was born in Tampa, Florida February 24, 1947 to the late Wardell, Sr. and Queen Butler. Wardell Butler, Jr. attended public schools of Hillsborough County and was drafted in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 where he served and fought in the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge he attended Miami Dade Community College where he studied mortuary science. He later returned to Tampa and attended Tampa College studying business administration while working for Hordis Bros, Glass Company for several years. Wardell then studied at Rofflers Beauty Academy in Tampa receiving his barbering license he was a self-employed barber for 20 years. Wardell was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church at a very young age. He was a God fearing man and loved quoting scriptures from the bible. He was a perfectionist; it had to be just right. His favorite scripture was Psalm 121 a song of Degrees. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sarah Bingham and brother, Herman 'Nanny' Butler. He leaves to cherish his memories with his devoted wife of 30 years, Jacquelyn 'Jackie' Butler; children, Jeffrey Butler and Kolevis Butler; step-son, Tony Henry (Carol); step-daughter, Robbin Henry and friend, Leroy; grandchildren, Jeffrey Butler, Jr., Jory Butler, Na'Kyia Butler and Leonard Walker, Jr.; sisters, Martha Darrigo and Marina Banks (Thomas, Sr.); nieces, Sylvia Cotton, Gloria Darrigo (Rheugene) and Talonda Butler; brother-in-law, Leon Austin (Rose); nephews, Keith Butler and Thomas Banks, Jr. (Jessica); special cousin like a brother, James Earl Bradley (Jeraldine); cousins, Margaret Williams, Herbert Tucker, Morris 'AL' Tucker, Herman 'Buddy' Butler and Herbert Tucker, Jr., all of Miami, FL; special friends, Willie White, Willie Robinson, Jack Brown and Robert Timmons and a host of great nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aiken Funeral Home, Friday, April 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
